My dentist told me the best story - her husband returned late from an international trip the night their daughter lost her first tooth. In his haze he gave her a $100 bill. In the morning they had to tell her that was for all her teeth.

March 8, 2026 - Tehran at sunrise today. But the sun is hidden behind a sky filled with smoke. After a night of intensive strikes on oil facilities, thick black clouds now hang over the city, turning morning into something that feels like night.

We are traveling to Iceland this summer and I've heard the quickest way to deal with this is if they ask if you're American you say "yes, and I'm so sorry."

Accidentally oversleeping due to the start of Daylight Saving hits different when you have to get a kid to school.

Just your yearly reminder that Daylight Saving is neither plural nor possessive! (looking at you, Strands)

This morning I encountered the third different cafe in the past few months telling me they were out of Earl Grey. Are we in an Earl Grey supply chain crisis?

I can only imagine what dosage you would need for shingles (which I have also had - but a very small case while on a research trip where I couldn't access health care)!

I had to take gabapentin for several years (still do every few months) for the neuropathy I suffered from my severe preeclampsia. When I stopped taking it daily it was like a fog lifted.

Such sad news. A kind and brilliant man. I love his essay on the use of phones in 2000s Filipino political culture and mobilization, β€œThe Cell Phone and the Crowd;” it’s powerful for its rejection of technological determinism, and its nuance and subtlety.

Rest in peace, Vince.

Obviously, turning down Trump's invitation could have been done out of spite, but I prefer the more likely reason - these women really ARE too busy with their actual jobs and schoolwork, because female athletes have to hustle just to play their sport.

If you want to know when Trump will start bombing Iran, he is waiting for the Olympics to be over. Dictators always wait for the Olympics to end before they attack other countries.

I've been a big Jessie Diggins fan for a while now - I admire her outreach on eating disorders, she trains in my home state of VT, and just seems like a delight of a person. This past summer we were camping in VT & sat just a few feet away from her at the 4th of July fireworks!

A photo showing Olympic Cross Country skiers celebrating the finish of the Women's 10km free race

The final three skiers in the women's 10km cross country (free) skiing race were from Brazil, Iran, and Mexico and the women who came in first, second, and third were there to meet them and congratulate them. Jessie Diggins literally took the Mexican racers boots off for her. #olympics

I am continually amazed by my daughter's kindergarten teacher's methods for teaching 5 year olds how to read. I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Someone told me lately "Bluesky is just like Twitter." I argued that was untrue on the basis that last time I had a Twitter account most times I got a new follower their bio said "single & looking for fun" & here when I get a new follower it tends to say something like "professor of rare moths".

Also, the suite was the one Michel Foucault lived in while doing a residency at UVM, so I always got a chuckle out of using the bathroom and thinking to myself "I'm using Foucault's toilet."
