Image is of a tree with dense leaves. Between the leaves, a large birds nest can be seen.
In the spirit of that first week of bluesky where our feeds were full of pictures of mushrooms, stars and landscapes, here's a blurry photo of a magpie nest on campus. I watched them place their first sticks a few weeks ago and now it's a fully formed nest (yay)! #Swoopyboiseason is coming (yikes)

Past successes - fixing the water pressure in my taps from blocked filters and calcium build up. π
Past over-estimations of my abilities - moving a brand new mattress up a very narrow flight of stairs alone. It ended up stuck between stairs and a structural beam for 6 hours before a friend helped. π

I won't ask for help for things I think I can work out how to do myself. It rarely pays off but just enough that I keep living like this.
Today I thought I could copy one LMS site to another because I missed the window for IT to do this for me. 1 hour later & all my content folders are dead links π

I studied a history course with Wayne Reynolds at UON on Australia's foreign relations with the US and UK and it's probably the most memorable course of my undergrad! Shook up so many of my assumptions and unsettled so much of what I learnt in high school history. Good luck! I hope it's enjoyable!!

@daniella-forster.bsky.social and I wrote a normative case study as part of my PhD and it's been published in this collection with cases from around the world about dilemmas in education!
It's my first book chapter so to say I'm stoked would be an understatement.

Last-day-of-work nightmare... Colleague emails to say that you forgot to attach a very important file. The aforementioned file (that you definitely saved) is no longer able to be retrieved on your computer.
Last-day-of-work miracle... MS Word 'recover unsaved files' restores the file in full.

Seven people sit on stage - five women and two men. One woman is holding a microphone speaking while the others are listening to what is being said. In the background is a screen that says 'Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia: Shaking Up and Settling Down: Education, Agitation and Regeneration Ka RΕ«, Ka Tau, Ka Ora'
To end the #PESAConference2024, I chaired the Michael A. Peters Looking Forward Panel where Chialin Li, Prof Ruyu Hung, Dr Ezechiel Thibaud, Prof Michael Hand, Philippa Isom & Prof Carl Mika discussed the challenges of being an ECR today & advice for new & established scholars in navigating these.

Five women are standing together smiling. Behind them is a large screen projecting a powerpoint presentation title slide that says: 'Beyond Epistemic Bubbles and Echo Chambers: Global Perspectives on Philosophy in Teacher Education'
I was very excited to present alongside Professor Ruyu Hung, Associate Professor Janet Orchard, @daniella-forster.bsky.social and Ksenia Filatov as part of a symposium discussing the place of philosophy of education (or lack thereof) in teacher education. I had every intention of posting regular updates from the #PESAConference2024 but I got too caught up with the presentations and the beauty of Christchurch that my phone photo gallery is *very* full, my social feeds are pretty bare, and now I'm back in Bathurst. We'll see how I go next year...

A letter on Philosophy & Public Affairs letterhead that reads:
November 12, 1973
Professor Robert Nozick
Department of Philosophy
Emerson Hall
Harvard University
Cambridge, Massachusetts 02138
Dear Professor Nozick,
I have been meaning to send you a note ever since you did not telephone the second time last week just to say that I decided after all to drop the offending post-apostrophes from the possessive of Rawls. This is, as I told you, according to the Chicago Manual of Style an honor due only to Moses and Jesus, but with us aesthetic considerations won out. The decision puts us somewhat in a class by ourselves -- I note that in Brian Barry's new book he and Oxford Press write Rawls's -- but I don't mind being different. I trust that you will not.
sincerelyοΌ
Margot Cutter

Australian university staff now in chaos: No idea what will happen after December 31
Australian universities must commit to supporting those who teach and those who research. Management needs to take a haircut.
All academics, regardless of their employment contracts, are feeling a sense of precarity with looming job cuts for the tertiary sector. Jess Harris describes other shocking examples of management practices that seem incomprehensible loom.ly/1vxkPrc
