β€œWe live in one of the richest countries in the world, that can afford to drop a lazy $360 billion on a bad idea . . . yet, when it comes to health, education, aged care, apparently, so many of these things are unaffordable.” - Dr Richard Denniss, co-CEO at The Australia Institute

Make fossil fuel exporters pay for the damage they are causing, not ordinary Australians Climate change is making natural disasters like fires, floods, heatwaves and drought worse, costing Australians billions every year. Make fossil fuel producers pay a climate disaster levy to help pay...

I’ve signed a lot of petitions in my time but this is the petition of the times.

Wins: Why we can’t insure our way out of the climate crisis Just as bookmakers won’t take bets on a one-horse race, insurers will never offer insurance against inevitable sea level rise and floods.

Insurance can’t make a nation safe from climate change

We can no more rely on insurers to protect us from floods than we can expect supermarkets to protect us from famines

Insurance is a one year contract. Once damage becomes likely you just cant buy it

80% of Australia’s gas is exported and NO GAS EXPORT PROJECT HAS EVER PAID PRRT.

Utter rort, aided and abetted by THE Australian government.

Big Gas is taking the piss, and your government is letting them.

George Brandis:
"We alienated women. We offended public servants. We offended multicultural communities. We insulted people who live in the inner cities. It was almost as if we were running out of new people to offend,"

The fight for fairness: Reforming superannuation in Australia The Labor government must hold firm on its proposed superannuation laws. If it can’t implement this small change, how will it ever manage to deliver other desperately needed and meaningful reforms?

"This idea that people with $3 million in superannuation are victims of unfair policy change is a fiction that blatantly ignores the broader reality." @eddyjokovich.bsky.social

How come not a single person has said they have been headed this way for years. I mean there’s Brandis waxing lyrical about how they’ve offended everybody without even a backward glance to his fight for the right to be a bigot. #4corners

#4corners Andrew Hastie who believes that women shouldn't be in leadership positions in the defence force, now says he backs Sussan Ley as the first female Lib leader? How stupid do you think we are? #auspol

Andrew Hastie has 3 β€˜stars’ on #4Corners -family, homes education. No mention of Lib govts making families’ lives more difficult through wage suppression and casualisation, defunding of public education and the CGT discount re β€˜homes’. Yet, they continually get away with this β€˜aspirational’ drivel.

This is a crazy-extraordinary event. By the 2016 WBM flood study it appears to be 1:500 flood, *out-of-season*. Taree's is largely a summer rainfall climate, definitely for extreme events. It'll be winter in 10 days.

At risk of being rude, have others noticed the extreme irony of the National Party (self declared β€˜friend of farmers’) breaking up the coalition because they oppose Net Zero while Australia languishes under extreme floods in NSW and extreme drought everywhere else? No? Just me, then?

No idea why media still depicts Nats as a farmers party. They are a mining party beholden to coal and gas interests and funded by Gina Rinehart. When there is a conflict between farmers and fossil fuels, they always back fossil fuels. Their opposition to wind is to protect fossil fuels for longer.

Today's post, in the light of yesterday's coalition break-up, looks at the Liberals and Nationals, how we rarely ever see the parties run against each other, and how the Nationals have now got to a point where they don't really run in many marginal seats #ausvotes

Labor spent $1.5 bn on a new subsidy for the middle arm gas project straight after the 2022 election…there’s no plan to stop subsidies or tax gas exports let alone tax pollution…the idea offsets are the only way to fund land restoration is a sick joke from those who make a fortune selling β€˜hot air’
