Regardless, to be honest, it doesn't matter what his stance on gay marriage is because he's already crossed a line by vetoing bills to fund and protect trans healthcare and he's going on right winter podcasts and saying transphobic things about trans athletes.

Missed that. So one single person said something currently unverifiable?

Used Ioniq5/6 are pretty rapidly coming down in price too, the timing just happens to have meant I needed something slightly less than that.

Just as a +1, used EVs are such a great option.

I recently needed "literally anything" pretty urgently (it turns out in retrospect) and grabbed a 2022 Bolt for a hair under 12k. 8k less than the 2022 ioniq5 next to it on the lot, slower at charging but I knew that going in, and it's been great.

It would be fair to generalize that type of thing as the start of an arc to outright transphobia and transphobia tends to lead to queerphobia in general.

So while he may not be against gay marraige today, if he's spouting anti-trans talking points, nobody's gonna be surprised if he is tomorrow.

That sure isn't what anybody in the thing you linked is saying.

If you've paid attention to Newsome in the past couple years you've probably noticed that he has started doing and saying some pretty unsavory stuff about trans people (it always starts with trans athletes, somehow)

10.03.2026 23:14 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

did... somebody say he is against gay marriage? I don't see that said in this thread or in the replies to your original post.

I'm aware of his stance on it in 2004, but 2004 and 2026 are different years.

extremely excited for some more battery powered sliding doors to show up!

Looks like the Lucid Gravity won't be the only modern take on the Mercedes R-Class, and this one doesn't try to hid it's a van!

I like how "repeating things the prospective candidate says, verbatim, including context" constitutes lying, here.

The party's job presumably seeing all of this is to find someone better. And fortunately better options do exist.

People are announcing early who they don't want to see on ballots and what properties they want in someone on ballot, so there's no last-minute (or even last-year) surprise when a lot of support doesn't ossify around candidates who are bad on issues like trans/human rights

10.03.2026 22:35 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This whole thing is happening because during the last election cycle, people had misgivings about Kamala Harris that she didn't address until almost literally the night before the election and the response was "well you should've come up with a better candidate earlier."

(It's also not entirely clear that this makes fuel that can be used in cars, it's storing at under half the pressure used by the mirai but maybe the car repressurizes incoming fuel?)

oh man I re-found something I mentioned a few months ago, there's a guy working on productizing hydrogen infrastructure: residentialhydrogenpower.com

can't find power requirements for the "small" versions but one makes it sound like you need 4x 60a circuits which most normal homes have /s

(TBH the other half of why I decided not to go for it wasI wasn't sure if I could find a shop to do the work since that's not something I could do on my own.)

10.03.2026 18:55 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

oh noo D:

I've seen some of these kits work on the basis of individual cells with the whole project being "crack open the pack(s) and replace the cells" - maybe there may eventually be a kit like that for the mini?

otoh that's a whole lotta work

10.03.2026 18:52 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It'd probably be worth it, and may be something vendors explicitly support for heavy duty fleet vehicles. There's precedent for powertrain swaps in public transport buses, for example.

trade show photo of 2021 toyota mirai drivetrain components including orange highvoltage cable sheaths and two very large yellow tanks that are probably the hydrogen storage tanks

I'm not 100% sure on why, maybe hydrogen handling hardware is just heavy, for safety probably?

The tank is filled to 87.5mpa which is over 12000 psi

if i understand correctly the yellow bits are the fuel cell tanks, this holds ~5ish kg of hydrogen.

10.03.2026 18:24 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I had to go look in detail. 2026 Mirai is 4255lbs.

2026 Ioniq 6 SE Standard Range(53kwh) is 3395 and the big-battery (77.4kwh) 6s RWD: 4,222-4,376. AWD: 4,222-4,376

Bigger delta on that small pack and nearly the same for 77kwh RWD.

10.03.2026 18:24 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

There are i3 replacement packs out there! I think there's even at least one option that's better density/capacity then the original (62kwh apparently)

Although TBH I was scoping out i3s and thinking about the cost of doing that upgrade and landed on Bolt in part because their batteries are bigger

Some of the FCEVs seem like nice cars, I wonder if anybody's gonna work on battery retrofits for 'em if they're fundamentally an electric drivetrain under the hood.

10.03.2026 17:50 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

hilarious sidenote now that I've put two and two together: there was a Nexo in Cottonwood about a year ago and I think it was at the dealer I bought my Bolt from and they didn't fully realize PHEV FCEV and just-EV/gas-PHEV are different things, whoops!

10.03.2026 17:50 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It'll be interesting to see if like "well we're starting an official draw-down on that public pilot program :)" ever happens

10.03.2026 17:46 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

yeah honestly it seems like if there were literally any real future for the tech more filling stations would be being built but instead there's only a couple players in the consumer market and prices on the fuel are going up and fuelling stations sometimes go down and never come back

10.03.2026 17:46 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I would even say "it's still worth working on in the lab in case the tech can actually make any meaningful improvements" but efficiency and production on FCs mostly hasn't changed in 15+ years AFAIK

10.03.2026 17:06 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Oh 100%, I can see where the idea came from and what it must've looked like in-context esp. pre-2015-or-so.

It just ended up being that battery tech lapped it pretty hard and was able to come down in cost better and is a much more efficient overall use of energy even if the transfer is/was slower.

10.03.2026 17:06 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'm not gonna engage with it especially because it's years old at this point but to be clear: currently hydrogen is a solution looking for a problem and it doesn't do almost anything it's cheerleaders say it does.

The one believable claim is weight and Ioniq 6 weighs 500 pounds less than Mirai, so.

10.03.2026 03:36 ๐Ÿ‘ 7 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 3 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

accidentally stumbled onto some more hydrogen fuel cell cheerleading and: haha oof

10.03.2026 03:29 ๐Ÿ‘ 9 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

like yes car dependency but you generally can't address that fast enough to make it not worth having an EV transition, and there's still combustion transit vehicles that eventually need to make the jump
