All this being said, please don’t take this the wrong way, I’m just soapboxing here.

I think one of the most valuable traits a hypnotist can have in my book is an open mind, because if you adhere to only your own subjective perspective of your own experience in your own brain, than you already begin to fail at being able to speak the language of someone else’s brain, which is vital.

I’m not saying that any of my friends have become transphobes, but I am saying that some people I know have been developing plural-phobic tendencies, which make it difficult to justify me wanting to be around them.

Lots of these practitioners were and are horrible people and likely would hop on the transphobia train without hesitation. It’s that skeptic perspective, the very anti-empathy “I need evidence, else your experience doesn’t have credibility”

I am not advocating for ignorance, I just think that often one thing leads to another and the reader who wants to study hypnotic phenomena and technique can suddenly become prey to very dangerous rhetoric if they don’t keep their wits about them.

It might look like I’m trying to spit directly in the face of multiple people I consider friends and I want to stress that I don’t intend to burn any bridges in any way.

Actually, I think reading too much nonfiction written clinically about hypnosis is actively detrimental to mental health. This is probably the spiciest take I can possibly make in this community but I’m going for it.

That’s why everywhere I go I wear a pin that says “HYPNOTIZE ME” /j
