Right, that’s an interesting question about “outsourcing emissions” in globalized marketplace. I suspect since transport + electricity production are the majority of US emissions, it’s not the main story, but I’m curious how that’s is attributed.

Since we can reduce emissions in the US and EU, the question is can China and India turn that trend around. . .

Now, the point of the plot is just a reminder that while the TOTAL global emissions has not declined, as you show, annual CO2 emissions has been DECLINING in the EU since the 1980s and in the US since about 2008. Total global emissions is what matters, of course, emissions reductions is happening.

(2) “cement carbonation” - cements and mortars have calcium hydroxide in them which reacts with CO2 to make caclium carbonate, CaCO3, sequestering the CO2 as rock. But yes, there is also significant CO2 release during cement production. However, so of that is in the past for current stock of cement

This is interesting, but masks some progress being made in emission reduction in the US and EU. Far from sufficient, but it’s not the case that nothing has been done.
