Daun THE HOMETOWN HOLLER Fear & Loathing in North Carolina (Feat. Blair Reeves) JUN 16,2025 β’ 43:19 LEFT This week on The Hometown Holler podcast, we sit down with Blair ReevesβNorth Carolina's favorite Waffle House Democrat and co-founder of Carolina Forward. Blair breaks down how the collapse of local media and a decade of ruthless gerrymandering paved the way for unchecked corruption in Raleigh. We dig into how the GOP supermajority seized control-and what it means for our schools, environment, voting rights, and future. What will it take to fight back and restore sanity in North Carolina politics? Blair's got ideas.
Really good @thehometownholler.bsky.social featuring @blairreeves.bsky.social if you want to learn a bit about NC state politics.

If I'm reading the votes correctly, if there were 3 additional living Democrats in the U.S. House, the Republicans could not have passed the reconciliation bill they just did.
Another RBG effect - the ego of the olds wreaking long-term damage. Absolutely damning indictment of the Democrats.
The wrong reason to be mad at the Democrats is that they're not lefty enough or whatever.
The proper reason to be mad at the Democrats is that the party leadership is a gerontocracy and they're sorta okay with that.

Bernie Sanders has been embarrassing himself in public for nearly ten years straight and the dude needs to go home and retire.

The soil in a few areas close to major battle sites, like Ypres and Woevre, remain so polluted today that 99% of all plants still die because arsenic constitutes up to 18% of the soil matter.
Even today, some farmers in western France still find over a hundred shells per acre of land they till. It's estimated that at the current rate of extraction, it'll take another 500 years before the area is considered clear.
TIL that there are still areas in northeastern France - zone rouge - that are still so devastated from World War One that they're legally restricted from any use. No housing or farming is allowed there due to the vast amount of human and animal remains and unexploded ordnance.
That is certainly true. But the execution we've seen to date suggests more incompetence or YOLO
They don't have any plan. There's no Big Conspiracy, in the formal sense; it's just a pure war on competence. They're careless people, breaking things, and don't particularly care because they know they won't be around when it comes time for picking up the pieces.

The advertising:
Maybe David should just sit down and learn from those who were right all along.
Like sure, happy to have allies wherever they can be found. Welcome to the team.
But David Brooks has spent literally his entire professional career promoting and carrying water for the conservative movement and ignoring and pooh-poohing those who showed him how intellectually hollow it is, so
