In fairness, the steak, crab, et al i believe was for the sailors before the war started. Regardless of what one thinks about the war, they deserved it.

The last time McConnell has a "spine" he said screw the Constitution and didn't allow Merrick Garland to be considered for the Supreme Court. He's as complicit and responsible as anyone for how we got to where we are

My fave lazy reviewer comment. If not having a paper after only 1 yr is a problem then just say so and that the PI is not productive (you'd be an idiot but I'd at least respect the commitment to idiocy). But don't put it down as a weakness and then say it's just a minor thing. That helps no one

As editor in chief of @asm.org #mSphere sometimes I need to work at home on papers submitted to the journal. Knowing that we have a dedicated scientists who read our papers makes all the work worth it. Here's one of our dedicated readers

When I moved to @virginiatech.bsky.social 1.5 years ago, some asked why leave a medical school to join a vet school. Lots of reasons including getting to working with some of the most dedicated scientists I've met. And here's one bit of evidence, our funding and rankings are skyrocketing. #UtProsim

If we are so worried that US military officers will crack at a university and become woke what hope do we have of them not breaking and spilling all the secrets if they are captured by the enemy?

There’s really only one person who believed RFK - Senator Bill Cassidy. Cassidy failed to meet the challenge to protect the country’s health. He should resign in disgrace and give up his medical liscence

Acinetobacter—the bad, the ugly, but also the good! | mSphere Acinetobacter is a bacterial genus with huge metabolic diversity (1), which can be found in many different sources, including animals, humans, plants, soil, and diverse aquatic environments (2, 3). However, the genus is mostly recognized as an opportunistic pathogen and source of hard-to-treat nosocomial infections (4, 5)—the bad and the ugly. Nonetheless, even the most nefarious species of the genus, Acinetobacter baumannii, has a habitat that extends well beyond causing illness in humans and can be found in many hosts or sources (6). Importantly, although not very much known or publicized, some species of the genus can be beneficial for some organisms—the good. Such is the case of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, which is considered a plant growth-promoting bacterium (7–11). In this regard, a recent paper published in this journal shows that A. calcoaceticus can impact the growth of an important staple crop, namely the tomato (12).

#mSphere also published an outstanding commentary on this article by Santiago Castillo-Ramírez and colleagues journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/...
