βWorkers get the thornsβ: the moral ugliness of rose factories | Rebecca Solnit
A rose is beautiful but a greenhouse with thousands upon thousands of roses, a place producing millions a year, is not
Most of the roses for sale in the US are raised in hideous labor and environmental conditions in Colombia and Ecuador before they're loaded onto 747s to fly here. I know because I visited one of the rose plantations/sweatshops for my book Orwell's Roses. Give your love a book or something.

NEW ANALYSIS: UK household electricity bills have risen over the last 5 years.
BUT: Despite frequent claims that net zero is to blame: 2/3 of the increase is because of high gas prices shows new @ukerc.bsky.social report.
Arguably without renewable energy the UK would see even higher bills today.

TOS enterprise bridge is pictured with 4 crewfolks, including Spock, Uhura, a redshirt, and Kevin the guy who sang annoyingly over the PA system that one time. Kevin and Spock are talking, and Kevin looks like that thing when a 5 year old is mad and drooping their arms all sulky like. Closed caption reads, "UNIVERSAL SUFFERING."

βEnduringβ legacy of Damilola Taylor hailed 25 years on from killing

25 years ago, London lost a bright, caring 10-year-old boy to an act of senseless violence.
The Damilola Taylor Trust continues to transform young lives for the better and has turned unimaginable heartbreak into an enduring legacy for young people across our city.
