House Transp Chair Sam Graves (R-Mo.) said Wednesday he aims to mark up next week the bipartisan ALERT Act, a competitor to the Senate-passed ROTOR Act.
In a brief interview with POLITICO, Graves said he doesn’t know which date yet but confirmed he’s targeting next week.
This is DC's most severe winter (to date) since 2009-2010
* Every month has been colder than normal
* Snow on the ground longer than normal
* 1960-61 was the most extreme winter-- much colder, snowier than this one
Families of the mid-air should be putting pressure on Graves. An exemption is not universal safety. #onelevelofsafety subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2026...
Our first call snowfall forecast map is OUT! Note: These are bigger ranges than usual because uncertainty is higher than usual. We will refine this map on Saturday.
Note: Wet snow could fall a lot of Sunday but mainly stick to grass; road accumulation probably holds off until closer to nightfall.
National Weather Service highlighting "potential" for heavy snow Sunday-Monday (Sunday night main period of interest). Afternoon models did gently go in a snowier direction. We need to see if it was a blip or a trend. We'll post an update on tonight's (Thursday) models around 1130-11:45p.
In the context of the Olympics in progress, I’ll remind you that AA5342 was not the only tragedy for USA Figure Skating. In 1961, on this day, the whole team was killed in a plane crash in Belgium. Here is the memorial plaque at the Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, where they trained.
EL PASO, Texas (AP) — FAA says it has lifted temporary closure of airspace over El Paso, Texas, and all flights to resume.
Adding to the confusion here in El Paso is that it seems like even the military were caught off guard.
Flights into Biggs, the airfield used by the military here, were also rerouted when the announcement was made.
A sudden 10 day closure of airspace in a major US city like El Paso should be THE STORY, with nothing else getting any air time until at minimum someone within the US government says what’s happening and why.
It barely even registers on CNN’s site. It’s literally the last item before the page ends.
Hi y’all. El Paso City Councilmember here but also fellow avgeek. Not a usual sub for me, but here we are. We’re all trying to work out why this crazy NOTAM was issued. What I know so far (as of midnight zero six local Wednesday): • It isn’t a typo or an error. FAA issued this NOTAM intentionally as written. • Nobody local got advance notice. And I mean nobody — neither civilian nor military leadership. • Military does not have carte blanche exemption. Army is fretting about their flights tomorrow just as much as everyone else. • Albuquerque Center did not get advance notice.

Thoughts this evening with the families of Alaska 261. As the years go on, it isn’t any easier. Peace be with you.
This is interesting - very reminiscent of TWA 800 - we have several memorials, three that I’ve seen. Only one was by the families. No mention of the family consultation here. beyer.house.gov/news/documen...
Our hearts go out to all the families of the 67 lost on this day a year ago. It’s a terrible club to which we belong. But, you are not alone. 🙏🏻
