My two latest paintings, framed and on the studio wall
Oil painting of an old house on a sloping street in Dartmouth in Devon. The view is at night, with a hidden streetlight casting light and shadows across the face of the building.
Newcomen Road - oils on cradled panel, 60cm sq.
An enjoyable challenge to try and capture the effect of the light raking across the face of this old house on a hill in Dartmouth.
Work in progress - oils on cradled panel, 60cm sq. Solid work today on the windows..
Work in progress - oils on cradled panel, 60cm sq. Finished underpainting.
Work in progress, unfinished painting of some pill boxes against a blue background. Simplified by removing the text in order to focus on the geometric shapes, strong colours and interesting shadows.
Detail of work in progress - oils on panel, 24x32 cm. A little still life exercise, painting some pharmaceutical boxes from life.
Unfinished oil painting of two stuffed animals in a glass case in a museum. Strongly lit from above the animals, held in stiff poses, cast strong shadows on the inside of the display case.
Work in progress - oils on panel, 50cm sq.
Pencil drawing of a couple of stuffed animals in a glass case, in a museum. An aye-aye and a mongoose. The animals cast strange shadows in the artificial lighting, set above a floor with a complicated geometric pattern.
Detail of work in process - underdrawing of some strange stuffed creatures, currently on the easel.. Pencil on cradled panel, 50cm sq.
Small oil painting of an industrial shed or barn in the countryside in Cornwall. The face of the building is in shadow while the side is in strong sunlight.
Shed - oils on panel, 25cm sq. I may or may not do more to this, but I kind of like it as it is. Will let it sit for a bit and see..
Various stages of work in progress of a new painting of a barn in Penzance. Underdrawing, underpainting and starting to build up layers of the final painting.
Oil painting of Victorian shopfronts in Bristol at the junction of the Gloucester Road and a railway bridge. The arch of the bridge casting strong shadows on the buildings in the low spring sunlight.
The Arches - oils on cradled panel, 50cm sq.
Ordered
Small painting of a corner-terrace Victorian house, painted in a limited palette of colours to mimic the aesthetic of an architectural model. The house is painted in shades of turquoise, while the landscape is painted in a warm grey-brown. The strong shadow of a house across the street is cast onto the main elevation which is bathed in strong sunlight.
Model House 2 - oils on panel, 25cm sq.
A fun little exercise inspired again by architectural models and drawings, based on one of my favourite local houses.
Thanks for this Ray - very kind of you ๐
Work in progress painting of shops in shadow at the bottom of the Gloucester Road in Bristol, by the railway bridge.

Work in progress - oils on panel, 25cm sq.
Using an old favourite location as the basis for a new idea, inspired by the recent exhibition of Maurice Wade paintings in Stoke. Also looking at architectural models and their simplification / abstract qualities. Might work, might notโฆ worth a try.
On the easel..

So Iโve heard. Just feels like a new mountain to climb, starting from zero again.. A good challenge for โ25 though!
