What I think is wild about London is how differently they speak based on such _tiny_ (to me) geographical differences!
What do sheriffs do when all the cities/towns touch? How do you feel like you have a hometown when the next town is like six contiguous streets away? I lived there long enough it started to feel normal but it was very strange at first. I could see going in the other direction being equally weird.
No shade to those folks, btw. If you haven’t driven from one side to the other a few times it’s genuinely hard to imagine.
When I moved to MA I struggled w/the fact that there was no “between” towns. Like no fields or anything. Just a sign saying leaving Town X and another welcoming you to Town Y.
I’m not convinced that it was always a name confusion issue, though. If you live where the states are small in size and fly when you travel to other parts of the country I’m not sure you can truly understand how very very wise the US is and how much bigger the western states are.
Moved to ID from MA but my immediate family were in IA and IL. Had several people say “oh that’ll be nice to be closer to family.” Nope, Boston is pretty much the same distance from Cedar Rapids as Boise is.

I love those Delta cookies. Zero desire to eat them when on the ground. I also love a hot dog outside but they never occur to me as inside food.

Apparently “See? Everything looks very normal.” while gesturing vaguely around the house is actually _not_ a reassuring thing to say as your spouse is unpacking from being gone for a week.
I could be wrong b/c I was admittedly eavesdropping in a busy restaurant and had to fill in some gaps myself but…I think the booth next to me at lunch was 4 women who all seemed to be trying to recruit each other to 4 different MLMs. It was like Pyramid Scheme Human Centipede.
