The only time I ever use a banknote now is to pay my barber (who doesn't take cards) so I think this is appropriate.

I watched a video from a driving instructor on YouTube that said drivers now had to be ready to stop since the law changed. It was very worrying that they didn't realise that was always the case.
Love Katsu but never made it with Tofu before. So this looks good.
Good to see the BBC giving some coverage to the Birmingham bin strike. It's amazing how little coverage a year strike with no recycling has got from the media.

In our block of flats we had an issue with the doors. We were told there were no doors anywhere in the country and had to be sourced from elsewhere. We thought it might be an excuse but we had multiple contractors say the same thing.
Or car sharing...
But also a lot of these are for people with time and / or money. Buying a season ticket is great if you've got the money to do it. Same with hunting for the petrol station with the cheapest fuel.
Also interesting no mention of Prolific as a survey site which has an effective hourly rate far higher than any of the polling sites.
Absolutely nobody is suggesting an interurban dual carriageway is made 20mph, but if a local street has a function and geometry incompatible with 20mph, then something is seriously wrong and needs investment to change.
It should do as my two HMRC accounts (personal and business) are linked to a government gateway account - which is a long number. Do you have a onegov account?
Very much a niche grumble:
Been sitting on Club Eurostar points for ages, finally decided to use them at the weekend.
Of course what do Eurostar do but decide to launch a sale on redemptions today... And Club Eurostar tickets are not refundable.
Happy digital ID day! From what I can see so far, there seems to have been a softening of govt intent but there's still an interesting lack of alignment between public incentives and govt communication. Essentially, the govt thinks the public spend a great deal of their time thinking about the govt
I assume it's not hugely beneficial for them to do so. They don't gain much as an organisation for winning and have a huge financial risk if they lose?
The spring Interrail sale has rolled round - 15% off all passes bought before end of March.
(Amusingly for me, this has launched during the 7-day free cancellation period for some passes I bought on Saturday. I will definitely not *ahem* be acting accordingly.) allaboard.eu/interrail
Problems of platform economy - we're allowing the platforms to accrue all the value not the people that do the work to create the content.
How does this happen...?! Who checks?
You don't just save money yourself, you reduce traffic and help everyone else as well.
You can see the difference in summer holidays, where the traffic levels are only 10 to 20% lower but it's so much better.
I'm still not sure if this is per person or per household. I think it might be per person.
I think this is correct - but this is all people including retirees

Where is that for? Just wondering how it compares to the UK...
This is where we end up when we're increasingly asking for age checks online and offline: it becomes more about ticking a bureaucratic requirement than actually making sure people are safe.

Good example of two common issues with UK transport:
1. Bike lanes not serving the main trip attractors
2. Train stations are never properly integrated into the wider active / public transport network
Fully agree and worrying that this is not getting any attention.

Women are still vastly underrepresented in planning and politics, in part because they feel the halls of leadership arenβt for them. After all: if you can't see it, you can't be it.

As I generally do not follow UK rail I am not really up to date with all of these HS2 shenanigans www.thetimes.com/article/95a1...
Can someone who follows this - @garethdennis.uk maybe? - tell me if all of this is factually correct? Because if it *is*, it sounds like a hell of a mess.
That's good but sad π’

First test of new refurbished cross country trains. Seats not bad, looks nicer but not really much fundamental different. Luggage space still poor. Seats reservations not working and front (old) half of the train not in use
My talk from the Computer Conservation Society last month is now online.
If you're interested in the history of the PC, and particularly how IBM lost the war to control its future, then this talk is for you. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gIk...
"Sir I would like to remind you, that you spent too much at McDonalds last night and did not have enough money in your account. This means you owe the delightful fellows at your bank Β£2.50 in interest."
In the second half of 2025, one man accounted for almost 40% of all money donated to political parties in the UK: a crypto-billionaire who lives in Thailand.
Britain desperately needs to rewrite its party funding rules.
