PS The reason Raymun Fossoway has a Yorkshire accent in the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms series, is because House Fossoway trace their line back to the First Men, like the Starks. It’s a subtle way to underline his comments about the Targaryens. His people have been in Westeros since the Dawn Age.

Which for me, begs even more questions about the true purpose of the wall, and how the Long Night was actually ended. If it was ended by people or a naturally ending of the atmospheric phenomenon that caused it to start or a magical pact, not unlike the one made between the children and First men.

Questions about how the Starks and the Night’s Watch enforce this border despite having for more in common with the Wildlings than any of the Southern kingdoms. What that’s says about how indigenous people can be complicit in imperialistic/colonial systems that dividing them from their own people.

Again, if you’re going to use real world sociological terms know what they mean and then think long and hard about how they would actually fit into this fantasy series.

Even all that aside, if you did a little deeper into the history and lore of the series it’s very clear that The Children of the Forest, especially their green seers, are the “Old Gods.” The magic of the Westwood’s is their magic, that they taught to the first men.

That’s why there is no record of the First Men’s culture prior to coming to Westeros. Unlike the Andals who actually did the largest amount of deforestation of the continent, killed off the Children, forced their own religion and culture onto the indigenous humans of Westeros.

For one thing, indigenous people aren’t magical beings. Comparing us to them ignores our humanity and undermines our history of migration.

But even in the canon of the series, the First Men integrate with the Children of the Forest, taking on their culture and religion as their own.

I need people who have no actually understanding of what “indigenous” and “colonizer” means to stop using these terms to talks about the A Song of Ice and Fire universe.

It isn’t as simple as the “First Men were colonizers and the Children of the Forest were indigenous people.”

While there’s no confirmation that the MCU’s Wonderman is a mutant (he isn’t in the comics). Thematically this feels more like a mutant story than a superhero one. Where powers aren’t aspirational, but a kind of otherness.
