These are the struggles and the questions swirling in our head, maybe while driving our fabulous new car to our beautiful home to a loving family. That all looks great until you peer inside the psyche.
Who am I? What is wrong with me? Why am I so unhappy and lonely all the time? Why do I feel like no one understands me? Why do I feel useless and powerless?
When you have a different perspective you see that the faces, facades, circumstances, geographical locations all differ, yet the struggle is essentially the same.
Comparison makes it look like life is easy for many people, yet this is an illusion and a dangerous one at that. It makes us feel small, unworthy, angry, resentful. No good comes from it. But what if you lived another life for a day? And then the next day, a different one? And so on.
It’s easy to see other’s facades and think their life is easy or that there is no struggle. That’s bullshit. Everyone has a hard time. Everyone deals with sadness, depression, loneliness, and anxiety. It just looks different than yours.
Everyone struggles. It’s a huge mistake to look at people’s facades, social media profiles, their affects, the things they have and what they do, how they look and use that to compare to yourself. You have no idea the struggles they have. You have no idea how they feel inside.
Is sing in a Jesuit parish in San Francisco. It’s comforting to know this would NEVER happen there.
I’m so grateful to be a Catholic and to have reclaimed my faith. Going to mass and singing in my church choir have brought me so much joy. As a gay man, it’s not easy. Especially when I see this travesty: www.advocate.com/news/michiga... #catholic#Jesuits #gay
