From the Sea to the City

We have joined efforts with MTM @migrationtechmonitor.com on a #CrossCommunityJournalism pilot project. A cross referenced news article series that takes the perspective of people on the move into account, influencing public opinion at local level through appropriate reporting. #shiftingnarratives

From failure to failure, fascist leaning politicians and those playing their game will eventually have to face the hard truth: their stunt policies are unworkable. This means that they are not only cruel, but also utterly incompetent.

Day 2: examples from Bologna, Vilnius, Rotterdam and two civil society organisations working against racism on co-designing narratives to foster inclusive societies.

A second session on safer spaces and the importance of creating the conditions for full participation in society of vulnerable people or those who are denied rights for their administrative status.

Inspired to have shared a panel with such brilliant people. Coordinating @fromsea2city.bsky.social through this outreach process in Southeast Europe is an enriching experience and we hope to bring the attention of municipalities we work with to the reality of people on the move in the region.

A workshop on "Homelessness and migrants with a precarious status - an overview from the local level" we have learned from the experiences of Milan, Utrecht and Manchester. The intersection between homelessness and having irregular status needs close attention and response from public authorities.

We are in Bologna with the colleagues from @movingcities.bsky.social and @seebruecke.bsky.social at the @eurocities.bsky.social conference to continue to build up democratic robustness against hostile national stances towards people on the move.

A region marked by emigration and a difficult position between the EU and its externalised fortress project. Strategic vision for the years to come regarding migration in and to Europe necessarily goes through building relationships between municipalities and civil society here.

An insightful discussion right after a panel with local representatives Nebojša Ilić of Šid, Dragan Mladenović of Obrenovac, Mirela Dupovac of Hadzići, and Elmedin Mehadzić of Bihać about the reality in their municipalities and the uncertainties the EU Pact generates in them.

He shared the panel "Multilevel perceptions toward the implementation of the new EU Pact - Context, challenges and limitations related to local governments" with researcher Tihomir Sabchev, Ivana Milanović Dukić from the Danish Refugee Council, moderated by Istanbul researcher GulayUgurGoksel.

Our coordinator @tdacruz.bsky.social is at the NALAS Conference "Enhancing Local Capacity and Regional Cooperation for Effective Migration Management" to advance our strategic goals liaising with civil society orgs and local representatives in Southeast Europe.
