This is cool. I guess I can reveal now that I nearly started a retranslation project months ago but opted to do ✈ instead since the retranslation would take me too long and I rather do a show that had no subs. Glad it all worked out. 💪😌

I meant to get this v2 out earlier, but life happened, and revisiting the show became harder for me due to various reasons, so it kept getting pushed. I saw that there wasn't a torrent with subs on Nyaa, so I went ahead and got it out there. I dedicate it to Miho. 🥲

I did EP21 solo because that episode onwards had DNR on the ToeiCh, so you can compare HDTV DNR vs DNR Bluray.

Sukeban Deka II on Blu-ray is presented in 1080p MPEG-4 AVC. The overall image quality represents a big improvement over the original DVDs, though not without reservations. The transfer exhibits far cleaner and sharper visuals, with nearly all dirt, scratches, and splice marks removed. Contrast is stronger, and colors are more vivid, though with a slightly cooler color timing compared to the DVDs. Black levels are solid, avoiding any clipping. Fine detail such as faces, clothes, and set textures shows a distinct uptick in sharpness over the DVDs. Sadly, DNR/digital noise reduction is applied, which leaves the image not looking as filmic as the DVDs, and with some occasional waxy artifacts. Although some grain remains, the ever-present film texture seen in Ep01-20 in ToeiCh has been dialed back. Edge enhancement is faintly visible in a few shots. No compression issues such as macroblocking or banding seem to be present. Source stability is very good overall, save for some mild shaking during freeze-frame shots and a few light scratches that escape cleanup. Shots with optical transitions, optical credits, and dissolves appear inherently softer, any use of recycled footage looks somewhat rougher than the rest. While not fully grainy, the transfer itself still has a lot of granular detail intact and a very crisp appearance. Compared to Sukeban Deka I on Bluray, which also suffers from a similar DNR impletentation, Sukeban Deka II feels more refined and more film-like with more granular detail preserved amid the DNR. Overall, I'd say it's still a big enough upgrade from the DVDs even with its DNR imperfections.
