At midnight 7 March 1918, a flying accident killed Captain Alexander Kynoch of 37 Squadron, Stow Maries & Captain Henry Stroud of 61 Squadron, Rochford. They were hunting a German aircraft when they collided and crashed. Captain Kynoch’s name is on our memorial at Stow. Portrait: War Memorials Trust

On this day in 1969, Concorde made its maiden flight. Aircraft technology came a long way in 50 years, from when our Avro 504K was training RFC pilots. It had a top speed of around 95mph - Concorde flew at 1,350mph. Visit us any Friday, Saturday, Sunday to learn more about the early days of flight!
