Meetings that call for wellies are often the best sort!
Last week, our conservation officers were joined by representatives from the Environment Agency, Natural England, district planning ecologists + ecological consultants for an on-site discussion around wetland creation and Biodiversity Net Gain.

This year we're celebrating 50 Years of Shorebird Protection at Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve.
We'd love to hear from anyone who's been part of the shorebird team as a staff member or a volunteer. We’re looking for your standout memories, special moments and any old photographs.

Last week, thanks to a great team effort from volunteers & staff, a new hedge was planted at Moorby Roadside Nature Reserve. An impressive 400 metres of double-rowed hedge was planted: all with native species and biodegradable guards.
Our thanks to Lincolnshire County Council and the Revesby Estate.

Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe Dunes is the base for two residential volunteers. Self-contained accommodation is provided in purpose-built, eco-friendly units with views of wildlife in the dunes from the kitchen window!
Working alongside our regional wardens and regular volunteers, residential volunteers get stuck into everything from species monitoring (some night shifts required!) to habitat and livestock management and public engagement. Tailored training and hands-on experience provides the ideal foundation for a career in nature conservation.
This is a six-month commitment, with the potential to extend to a maximum of 11 months, taking in the 2026 grey seal pupping season at Donna Nook.

Applications are now open for our next residential volunteers based in the Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes NNR on the coast and Far Ings NNR on the Humber estuary.
These are fantastic opportunities to gain experience and kick start a career in nature conservation.

The volunteers from RAF Waddington braved the threatening weather with a cheerful attitude for their monthly work party in the Education Grounds at Whisby Nature Park. This month, they tackled the hazel coppice and a wild and thicketed blackthorn hedge.

Meet our first calf of 2026. She was born in the early hours of yesterday morning and has been named Fawn. We are expecting 18 calves this year in total - all Lincoln reds who will join our conservation grazing herds at Woodhall Spa Airfield and on other local nature reserves.

Three cranes on a wetland reserve in south Lincolnshire. Two adults on the right, with their youngster from last year on the left.

Last year's surviving crane chick at Willow Tree Fen is now a gangly teenager and getting ready to leave home - whether it likes it or not. As the parent birds start to prepare for another nesting season, they'll drive the 10-month-old out of their territory to go it alone.
