A man asked me last night what publishing needs to do for literary fiction to begin appealing to men again. I said, as nicely as I could, that, with over 2,000 books published every Tuesday, of which many would appeal to men, it’s not a publishing problem, it’s a men problem.

This is bad news for everyone in the South, and really bad news for low-income trans folks. The surgeons getting pushed out of university hospitals will move to private practice and while SOME people will still get trans surgeries covered by insurance, those on Medicaid won’t.

Like most rational and scientific minded people, I take my cues on the healthcare needs of minority groups from the Catholic Church, the Alliance Defending Freedom, and sundry rightwing influencers with a weird fixation on birth rates. I am the New York Times, a serious newspaper.

i read an essay today that, in a single paragraph, lumped together afropessimism, queer antisociality, trans negativity, and indigenous writing on legacies of dispossession, then leveraged Wendy Brown’s States of Injury to diagnose (describe? dismiss?) them all as forms of wounded attachment

predictably odd + bad times for a book announcement, but nevertheless this little book about climbing (and grief and time and mortality and obsession and work and trust and fun) will be in the world in a few months, thanks to @dukepress.bsky.social

Show hearings and trials are a key marker of a concentration-camp regime. Even in countries with existing detention crises, the conscious step to degrade due process for targeted groups further diminishes the larger legal system while shifting power to emerging quasi-legal and extralegal approaches.
