Yeah, it's extremely controlling in a way RE4 isn't, which is just so contrary to what I care about in games. It's weird too because the series remit was to just make their own RE4, but they just decided to do it the western 3rd person shooter style, just with lotsa gore.
Plasma cutter? Cool. Enemy design? A bit frustrating. Environments? Sometimes cool. But pacing? Very late 2000s cinematic, funneling you from set piece to set piece rather than gameplay mode (see Half Life 2). Isaac? This dude fucking sucks.
I think I officially don't really get Dead Space as a franchise. I think 2 is better than the first one, but it's just not all that cool or fun to me. It should work, and it'll be fun to figure out why it doesn't when we record about it.
I really recommend getting yourself a great wife. It's awesome.

I imagine it's at least partly me, but something about the pace and posture of how Dead Space games deploy their scares feels deeply haunted house/artificial to me in a way that other horror games don't. So far, dead space 2 is a bit better about it than the first, but still
