Immigrants don't steal jobs. There's piles and piles of research on this. But even if it wasn't a xenophobic myth, I'd still rather lose my job to an immigrant than to AI. Immigrants gotta eat. Gotta pay bills. I get it. Can't be mad about that. They're part of our communities, too.

But AI isn't.

Thank you everyone sharing. I'm hitting emergency stations here, less than a week to go and zero safety net, so the more eyes on this, the better.

(Yes, I am looking for other work etc. I'm unfortunately very disabled, so options are just... Not.)

Fun task last thing on a Friday: recataloguing (because it had disappeared from the catalogue) Francis Bacon’s presentation copy to Cambridge University of his Works (London, 1623). In a contemporary binding of blue velvet embroidered with silver thread. @theulspeccoll.bsky.social Sel.2.84.

That is gorgeous! I know the silver is tarnished, but I think it makes it even lovelier.

Some warehouse owners have even backed out of sales after learning how the properties might be used. It feels like something bigger is unfolding, and it doesn’t sit right. Please pay attention. Why would this many warehouses be needed to hold people?

We just shared the link from NBC about three warehouses being bought to house immigrants, but it now looks like we seriously underreported how many are being purchased. Based on information many of you have shared, the number appears to be over 26.

Coworker has an automatic litterbox at home, with an app on her phone. The app tracks her cats deposits and tells her anything is wrong. However, it also notifies her by saying, "Tell 'catname' we said hi!" She thinks the app is flirting with her cat.

one of the greatest human triumphs of my lifetime is the relentless, unceasing, heroic effort by DECADES' worth of doctors and scientists to find a cure for a disease much of the world didn't take seriously for years because it predominantly affected a community they thought kinda deserved it

It's true it seems, with no warning or explanation CIA simply discontinued and removed the World Factbook this week.

I imagine they'd say we have wikipedia now wo who needs it, but check the footnotes and see how many wiki entries get their data from the CIA factbook. Lots.

Yearly PSA y'all, because people argue this on every platform every year during Black History Month and when talking about Black Romance.

Not a hot take, clear definition: Black romance is: written by a Black author, the main character is Black, and all the love interest(s) are Black. Every time.

I think I've decided I'm just too tired to be surprised by any Epstein news anymore. There are only 500 rich people in the world and they all know and enable each other and they are goddamn exhausting.

Blocking the construction of ICE detention centers is much easier than closing them once they're built! If you're in this county, follow the OP for some ways to support; if you're not, keep an ear out for proposed detention facilities in your zone
