I really like Step-Die mechanics in role playing games and Greg Gorden worked on some of the best Die-Step systems.

I've got some thoughts on the classic Star Frontiers role playing game.

At last, I have reviewed Heir of Strahd by @delilahsdawson.bsky.social
www.geekeratimedia.com/p/which-way-...
I am checking it out.
Wanna listen to me talk about horror movies, the kids today, the media landscape, and a ton of tangents inspired by host @christianlindke.bsky.social? For about 80 minutes? Of course you do: www.geekeratimedia.com/cp/176668291
I love D&D and I still run 4e, 2e, and 5e.
Nick Drage liked the post, so I'll share a current favorite game with Modern Age from Green Ronin. I absolutely love this system.
Based on the number of new game related Kickstarters that just launched, it must be GenCon time.
It's Independent RPG Month!

I think that this could be a distinct possibility. Jonathan! Jonathan!
Are there any other fans of the PokΓ©mon Jr. Role Playing Game out there?

How excited am I that @greenroninpub.bsky.social's new book Modern AGE: Powers is out?
VERY.
New Weekly Geekly Rundown. I discuss the Bingo Paradox, highlight two reviews by @lytrules.bsky.social, recommend Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, share some music and a movie recommendation, and share links to other Substacks. It's a ton of fun.

We did do a character creation session, but I never actually ran the game. The characters were too similar and the players wanted to play the setting with a different system.
10 games I have GMed. One is a lie. Guess which one.
1: Tunnels & Trolls
2: Rifts
3: DC Heroes
4: Vampire: The Masquerade
5: Dungeon Crawl Classics
6: Savage Worlds
7: Cyborg Commando
8: Middle Earth Role Play
9: Paranoia
10: Indiana Jones the Role Playing Game
This is a pretty great list and I was happy to be able to contribute in any way in the discussion. There are a lot of great Cult films and this list is a great starting point.
Can you guess which movie I recommended?
Great era of the magazine. The content was so inspirational to me and my friends.
It would have been easy for this movie, with a roller skate based sport, to wander into camp. Instead, it became a classic that holds up today.
A reminder that the fabulous TwoMorrows Publishing was hit pretty hard by the Diamond bankruptcy and are having a sale, though you could also buy any of the other non-sale books too. Their comic history work is essential, like the Comic Book Chronicles or DC Implosion. twomorrows.com/index.php?ma...
My latest Weekly Geekly is filled with sorrow over the recent California Fires and the usual rundown of interesting stuff.

The Forever Pillars remind me of Phase IV.
Hey @vistagmedia.bsky.social, that's a great list. Thanks for putting it together.
Jack (King) Kirby worked on some of the best Saturday Morning Cartoons
What's a prop that I NEVER expected to see featured in a Hallmark Christmas Movie?
SHI: Black, White, & Red
And yet, there it is right in the middle of 2017's Sharing Christmas.
One of the things we forget from time to time is that people play games for different reasons. We talk a lot about storytelling in roleplaying games, but for some players the mechanics themselves are the fun part. We can learn from those players to become better storytellers.
I just published by Christmas themed Mork Borg inspired adventure.

Some of my readers and I have some gift recommendations for you. These are a little off the beaten path.
geekeratimedia.substack.com/p/geekerati-...
While it's interesting to discuss the various peaks, the fact that these turn out to be relatively normal distributions is kind of the more interesting story to me.
Of course now you've got me breaking out of my Amicus/Hammer/Corman obsession of late and looking up books on 2010s horror like this one.

John Krasinski used it (to some scandal) in 2018, Bilge Ibiri wrote about it a lot in Vulture under a slightly different term (art horror) that he got from David Edelstein. It eventually caught on with David Ehrlich at IndieWire.
