Playful and excoriating in equal measure, “Fiume o Morte!” (screening at @wufilmseries.bsky.social this Sunday) examines the absurdity, horror, and sobering legacy of fascism, presenting an irreverent reframing of place and history that gives power back to the people. poplifestl.com/fiume-o-mort...

Far less lively than its premise promises, director John Patton Ford’s “How to Make a Killing” has a sturdy dramatic framework but forgets to have much fun along the way — it’s an Eat-the-Rich satire that commits the unfortunate sin of being dull. #filmsky

Frederick Wiseman - rare case where a 96-year-old filmmaker’s death feels tragic because they had so much more left to do. Uninterrupted streak of curiosity, empathy, wisdom, and quiet anger, ended only by the reality of living in a human body.

Over the past couple years, I've watched 20 films directed by Frederick Wiseman, and every one was profoundly moving and rich with meaning. Wiseman opened my eyes to new ways to see the world and experience art. Hospital (1970) is probably my favorite. RIP to one of the best filmmakers of all time.

2026 Oscar Nominations: See the Full List
Snubbing Jafar Panahi and "It Was Just an Accident" in Best Picture and Best Director is rough. So is snubbing "My Undesirable Friends" in Best Documentary (grrrrr). "F1: The Movie" in Best Picture... huh? Happy about the love for "The Secret Agent." #filmsky
