"Reform does not need to win diverse urban seats outright to reshape the political landscape. It only needs to normalise the idea that losses there are somehow suspect. Once that logic takes hold, any unfavourable result can be reframed as a problem with the electorate rather than the message."
This.
All I can think about is Jeff Bezos saying that he slashed jobs at the Washington Post β including those of foreign correspondents in the Middle East β based on "the data," and a few weeks later a whole war breaks out in the Middle East that these laid off folks would have covered as true experts.
This amendment will deliver justice for survivors. We want to thank the survivors who bravely shared their experiences with Parliament and called for this change.
Government must now ensure the amendment is strongly enforced without delay.
π Safeguards secured!
The House of Lords has voted to adopt critical safeguards on p*rnography websites: age & permission verification and the right to withdraw consent
The APPG has long called for this change to combat abuse and exploitation rampant on these sites π§΅
Gas prices jumped again this morning and are on track to double - a stark reminder of our exposure to fossil fuel volatility.
The real solution isnβt more drilling, but moving away from combustion: electrify, use renewable power, and boost energy efficiency.
I asked the PM to confirm that the UK will focus its diplomatic efforts on deescalation and peace.
3/3 Thatβs why net zero isnβt just environmental policy β itβs economic and national security policy. It cuts bills and removes risk, putting Britain in control of homegrown energy. In a more unstable world, itβs a no-brainer.
2/3 Weβve seen this before with Ukraine. When oil prices jump, inflation follows β and households are thrown back onto the energy bills rollercoaster. Thatβs life in a volatile global market shaped by geopolitical shocks.

For months, critics of net zero said falling oil prices proved fossil fuels were now βcheaper.β Now Middle East instability is threatening another oil price spike β and higher energy bills for Britain. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20zgjzz0e4o
The white paper will also outline plans for two new programmes - Mission North East and Mission Coastal - to tackle the performances of deprived pupils in certain parts of the country. The Guardian understands the precise locations for these initiatives have yet to be decided.
funding Ministers to set out plans to halve attainment gap in England's schools
Delighted to see that the government is adopting my proposal of a βMission Coastalβ to tackle the massive underachievement of young people growing up in our seaside towns. Based on New Labourβs βLondon Challengeβ the plan should give more hope and growth to our coastal communities.
East Kent (and rural/coastal places) are very different from big conurbations like GM. Need a different approach.
Yes letβs. Areas that reply on a tourist economy in particular can benefit but it also helps people just to get to work school hospital appointments etc. itβs so dumb that βcompetitionβ trumps *actually making it work*
I will campaign for it as part of LGR (we are likely to have a unite at covering east Kent but transport will be a strategic responsibility higher up I suspect). One of the outcomes we are hoping for our city of culture bid is better (including more integrated) public transport across the isle.
Funny and stupid are polite epithets for this criminally ideologically driven numbskullery. I have lost count of the number of conversations with local leaders who say they canβt make investment in buses stack up. Just. Schedule. Them. To. Link. With. Other. Transport. Options. π
Noted. Lovely track choice too!

Saw this on LinkedIn. Our immigration system is morally bankrupt and economically ridiculous. Shameful.
I was on @itvpeston.bsky.social last night wondering why we pay any attention to bigots like Ratcliffe
Thanks to @pollybillington.bsky.social for her great work in exposing this.
From the bustling city centre to the great British seaside the impact of illegal subletting is felt in many communities.

I spoke yesterday in the House of Commons about the Epstein and Mandelson scandal and how this is the moment when we should draw a line under a culture where talent or connections overrides bad behaviour, character or judgement
Having actual veterans of Afghanistan like @louisesandherjones.bsky.social and @alcarns.bsky.social as ministers in our British government, telling it like it is, will hopefully remind our allies exactly how much NATO countries have need to have each othersβ backs, in the past and the future
NATO Article V has been triggered only once: by the US after 9/11.
When our ally called, we in the UK didn't hesitate to stand with them.
636 British men & women paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan, with many more living with their injuries today.
Starmer slams Trump:
"Trump deployed words on Chagos yesterday that were different to his previous words of welcome and support when I met him in the White House... for the express purpose of putting pressure on me and Britain in relation to my values and principles on the future of Greenland."
