The sheep count was not for the feint of heart! It was so grueling. Even if you didn't hike, just being out there all day in that heat was difficult. I miss doing it 🙁 I would come back for the sheep count if it were still happening as it was before.

I did. After the count was done, we ate at the local haunt. He is the bartender there. I asked him a lot of questions!

It is an incredibly beautiful place! The wildflowers are hard to beat in the desert

Last one. A local man ran through our counting site in the peak heat of the day. We logged it as a human sighting and listed his characteristics as we would a sheep sighting lol

The most extreme was backpacking in 120 degrees to participate in a desert bighorn sheep count. Insanely difficult, scary at times, and so very rewarding.

I am drawn to the geology, the fauna and flora, the difficulty and the proximity to where I lived. I still hike this trail when I visit my old stomping grounds. I have hiked it in 100 degrees in the summer and covered in snow in the winter. It is one of my favorites!
