He was my friend's favourite fantasy author at age 11-12, but thank god she grew out of that (I wasn't a really a fan, just indifferent, but it still took a few years later for me to go 'wait this guy is a creep')

I love when you can see a ridiculous food trend 6 months from death like this
This feels like MORE WORK
FOR MOTHER by Ruth Schwartz Cowan, which explored the irony that many of the technical advances in housework and the kitchen did nothing to ease the burden on women but instead increased it.
Saving this eternal post for every time I need to be reminded
Undiagnosed ADHD is bad, but I think the most damaging part of it is spending an entire childhood feeling like a Bad Kid no matter how hard you try not to be.
You can't pay attention (you want to), you don't try hard enough (you want to), and you waste your time on useless stuff (you don't want to).

I went to an art school and my god if the name alone doesn't sound like half the works of the second year playwriters (the other half being called something like "Blood in the Mirror", so more along the lines of his earlier work)
Hey lemme know if anything is chewing the bark of one of my neighbours, I'm getting suspicious about a couple of nearby larch
The author holding the book As Meat Loves Salt by Maria McCann
Devoured this book in a week and a half and stunlocked myself. Maria McCann really wrote her debut novel about 17th century toxic yaoi tragedy in 2001 at age 45 and she fucking freaked it harder than anyone had ever freaked it before
The entire thing is written in setting-accurate 1600s prose for 600 pages, such an incredible fucking flex on McCann's part. Books are amazing you can do anything in there
I'm sorry, most general audience people go "Have you seen this innovative, trailblazing book called Torment Nucleus?? So unique!" while 40 years of sf anthologies will have had "Don't Build The Torment Nexus" in them.
What if it's the secret third thing: the work becomes very popular and it's repeated uncritically in non-fan circles to the point most people actually believe it (like what happened with certain wizard school books)
Like, in general or lately? They're very common here but not typically before April
One of the biggest and most obvious divisions that genAI evangelism reveals, is people who are intrinsically motivated versus people who are extrinsically motivated.
Absolutely bucketing down now, which isn't unexpected but I'm not thrilled
I want to go back (mp3) not go back (1950s)
I'm glad vinyl is in a comeback state but I'm not thrilled my options for purchasing albums from a lot of people is pretty much just vinyl or streaming and no cds or digital purchases
Crazy thunderstorm would be happening if the lightning was hitting the ground, clouds all around and on the horizon have been flashing nearly non-stop but it's high enough altitude I haven't heard any thunder
