Not bad! Isn’t exactly the most groundbreaking or inventive post-hardcore and emo out there but I think they do each genre plenty of justice with overall great performances.

Main issue for me is just that a lot of the screaming vocals feel a tad too buried/subdued for my taste

Recommendation from a friend that is been putting off for longer than I should’ve

Thought it was alright, feel like there isn’t much I’d go back to it for that their contemporaries don’t do a lot better. Definitely not bad though.

Another great Converge album, still prefer Jane Doe and You Fail Me a bit more but this is still some insane and loud Metalcore and Hardcore.

More to come soon, really loving these guys :)

My curiosity got the better of me since some of the live clips of these guys sounded really good. Glad to say I was pleasantly surprised with their debut record! Pretty sick and groovy math-rock all around, only wish the drums were a tad more impactful in the mixes :)

Made a short Stereolab tier list now that I've heard all of their main studio albums, will probably update this once I get through the B-Sides and Compilation records eventually :)

Some of its grooves can get a little simplistic for Stereolab’s usual standards but with such a strong formula nailed down by this point it’s still an enjoyable listen. The lyrical angle of music/dance as a societal distraction on some tracks was quite clever too :)

Starts off relatively strong, but I think overall it feels like some of Denzel’s most unadventurous work. Still pretty good, but going forward I really wanna hear him and The Scythe as a group get a lot more bold, especially in the production department.

Not the most groundbreaking Beatles album or anything but yet another very solid one! the self-titled track and β€œGet Back” are some of the most nostalgic Beatles tracks for me :)

Pretty fun. Definitely shows its age a bit in the fact that a lot of its guitars and other higher-frequency instruments can be slightly ear-piercing but other than that it’s got plenty of great 60’s Brazilian songs that are sure to provide a good time :)

Loved this! Likely one of my favorite Post-Punk records I’ve heard. Great lyricism, great recordings and production, and pretty great flow from track to track. Highly recommend :)

Found these at Unwind Records & Comics in Asbury Park, NJ. Great store, really small but amazing selection for my taste. Def will be going back :)

I’m beginning to love Converge. This album is honestly damn near on par with Jane Doe for me. Twisted, fiery guitar tones, great and energetic vocal variety, and thrilling progressions and grooves. Amazing record.

Gonna try When Forever Comes Crashing next! :)

It’s insane how Death Grips released this not even 6 full months after The Money Store and yet it sounds both completely different and nearly as mind-bending. Wild album and yet another extremely solid release in their very diverse discography for me :)

The one thing that bugs me about this album is that it’s mastered weirdly inconsistently. Some tracks feel oddly quiet and it can quickly jump back up to being normal volume on others.

Outside of that I think it’s really good, more of a Disintegration fan but still great :)

Kicks off just alright but it gets much better very quickly. Incredible voice on Jill Scott and the album’s got plenty of moments that are smooth and punchy. Very impressed overall, definitely shaping up to be one of my favorites this year :)

Another addition to my growing post-rock collection and a very solid one at that. Very similar to Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven but shorter and less noisy overall. Not the most innovative thing ever but just really pretty and quite cathartic progressions :)

Loved this one! Blu & Exile have been pretty consistent for me so far and I just love how talented these two are in both Blu’s lyrical chops and Exile’s jazzy boom-bap production style. Such a warm feeling hip-hop album, it’s wonderful :)

songwriting. Overall it doesn’t blow my mind or anything and I’m not sure if it’s gonna be a release that I come back to all that much but it’s very solid and very well worth a spin if you’re a pop fan [2/2]

Pretty good. My only real issue with it is that there are points where the vocals can sound a bit ear piercing when she hits her higher register, which I think is either because of the compression or some other vocal effect she uses, but otherwise great production and [1/2]

really bland and underwritten, and even the best of its grooves (like on β€œRepeater II”) don’t even come close to the insane quality on The Shape of Punk to Come. Interesting genre fusions between jazz, metal, and punk in concept but ultimately not very well executed imo :( [2/2]

Found out about this recently and heard it featured contributions from members of Refused, which had me pretty excited to check it out.

Unfortunately, really did not vibe with most of it…

Progressions did next to nothing for me, when there are lyrics they just feel [1/2]

VERY impressed with this. Real grimey but super catchy punk record. Huge fan of how commanding Joe Talbot’s vocals are as well, very similar to Michael Gira’s more intense work with Swans. I wish a very small few tracks didn’t repeat verses but otherwise, fuckin amazing album!

Topster of my First Listens and Revisits for February!!!

Took some time to re-listen to My Ghosts Go Ghost by By Storm and Blue by Joni Mitchell, and ended up loving them so much more now. Great month overall :)

Bottom 3 were the most underwhelming for me personally.

Great way to close out the month, another fantastic album from Armand Hammer. Pretty gloomy and eerie production on nearly every track. Not as boundary pushing as We Buy Diabetic Test Strips but all around a super solid album that any underground hip-hop fan should hear :)

I think I’m a bit more of a Jane Doe fan overall, mostly because the post-hardcore elements that album had are largely absent here and it’s a more straightforward Metalcore album, but DAMN it’s a good ass Metalcore album. Amazing recording and production too, drums sound CRAZY!

Relistened to this on my walk today because it’s been nearly 2 years since my FL and it didn’t hit me as hard as I’d hoped.

Completely shifted for me, one of the most gorgeous folk and singer-songwriter records I’ve heard in a while. Deservedly a Classic :)

Absolutely loved this! The thematic focus being the acceptance of death is something that really hits home for me, and I just love the way this album was recorded. Beautiful arrangements like on β€œInoculate the Innocuous” especially. One of my favorite FLs this month for sure!! :)
