A screenshot of an RStudio window. On the left-hand side is a new pain called Posit Assistant. The Posit Assistant had recently run code making a lat-lon plot of Washington state, colored by whether the point had been marked as forested or not.
Today we're releasing AI for RStudio. It's really, really goodโI'd encourage you to point it at the messiest data sources you have and see what it can do.

Got the new Windows 11 update, and I have to say it's pretty handy to know what I'm going to download tomorrow
If you're referring to the plots pane, does this setting do what you want? (aspect ratio -> fill)
If not, could you open a discussion with some screenshots to let us know what you're seeing? github.com/posit-dev/po...
Thanks for tracking that down and for the great writeup! We'll take a look.
Haven't seen something like this before. Please file a bug on our issue tracker if you can narrow it down!

My keynote about data science tools at posit::conf is now online! I originally meant it to be a talk about Positron, but as I was writing it, it took a left turn through the history of RStudio and into the philosophy of tool design & how to build stuff for people.

Github Copilot is best thought of as a thin layer of software engineering prompts/context over foundational models like Claude Sonnet & GPT-5-Codex, + excellent IDE integration. It's very good.
AFAIK Github Copilot was the original Copilot. It was (and is) a good product, but Microsoft couldn't resist capitalizing on the brand and slapping the "Copilot" label on literally anything it did that included the letters "A" and "I" in proximity.
Is #Positron going to replace #RStudio? ๐ฑ (This is the worry I keep hearing lately ๐)
Posit Software Architect @jmcphers.bsky.social says, "there are certainly no plans to get rid of RStudio."

It really depends on the input! if I'm typing in a chat window or something it's really annoying to have to press anything other than enter, but anywhere that multi-line inputs are common, I live in fear of accidentally submitting when I just meant to add a line break.
I'm pretty sure they're just gonna table the issue
Fantastic, glad you could make it!

we love this zucchini pizza which has you shred & drain (rather than slice) the zucchini. the texture is amazing. smittenkitchen.com/2016/08/summ...

Is ... is it smiling?
I hurt myself sleeping a few weeks ago.
Hadley Wickham in a white t-shirt and jeans sits on a light-colored couch across from Michael Chow, wearing a dark green shirt and pants, who is seated on an orange pouf. Between them is a white coffee table with books. In the background, there's a dark bar with shelves displaying numerous bottles, a wood-paneled wall, and a black, modern fireplace. Text overlay reads "Hadley Wickham CHIEF SCIENTIST, POSIT".
Ever wonder how the #tidyverse came to be? ๐ค
#TheTestSet's first episode features @hadley.nz on his accidental empire of #RStats packages, bear encounters, and more!

hah, so there is! Added some notes there
it should not ignore this. we'll fix it. thanks for reporting! github.com/posit-dev/po...
RStudio is not being abandoned; it's still being actively developed and is getting some of Positron's features, most recently support for the Air code formatter and nicer treatment for errors/warnings in the console.
"Some things are too fun to stay in the past"?!
Eric, "It's that Time again" was RIGHT THERE
I love that game and so does my 6 year old daughter! The whimsical items and fast-but-not-stressful pace are just right.
Positron with a chat panel open with a question about fixing a ggplot plot
Positron now supports a chat panel with Claude and it's pretty neat

On the right, a man with short, light brown hair and glasses, smiling and wearing a navy blue shirt, is posed against a warm brown background.

I'm no fan of the tariffs but I think the glut of incredibly cheap toys from overseas has been bad for parents and kids. I would welcome a world with fewer toys, more carefully purchased.
We're delighted to announce Jonathan McPherson โ software architect at Posit โ as keynote speaker at posit::conf(2025)!
If you're curious about how thoughtful design principles can improve the data science tools you use, you won't want to miss this!
Join us Sep 16-18 in Atlanta. pos.it/conf
@lionelhenry.bsky.social and I are so excited to finally announce Air - an extremely fast R code formatter! ๐
With Air, you'll never need to worry about styling your #rstats code ever again. All you need to do is save, and Air takes care of the rest.

I have also tried this and didn't enjoy it. There's just no redeeming flavor behind the artificial capsaicin burn.
Good for TikTok dares, not good for lunch.
