11 March 1934 | A French Jew, Marcel Milsztejn, was born in Paris.
He arrived at #Auschwitz on 31 August 1942 in a transport of 1,000 Jews deported from Drancy. He was among the 676 people murdered after selection in a gas chamber.
An original Nashville sit-in member, along with Diane Nash, James Bevel, and John Lewis. Trained in non-violence by James Lawson. At age 21, he signed a will before the Freedom Rides, knowing he could die.
May his soul be at peace, and may we all have such courage in the face of oppression.
What do you love about πͺπΊ?
For what it's worth, nothing wrong with loving mobility as a result of citizenship, and indeed with being able to buy Cypriot halloumi and Austrian MΓΌller-Thurgau easily
Plenty of Britons love Europe.
Tell me and @er2023.bsky.social why?

Heartbreaking
Can anyone explain to me what the Blue Labour justification for this is? Who out there will vote Labour because Mahmood prevented a Sudanese Chevening Scholar? And to be honest, why wonβt the PM simply overrule her?
As you know, in the UK you just need to climb to a shade above 30% support, and then trust in the crooked voting system to give you the 400 seats you need rather than the 200 seats you earned.
Worked for the duopoly for 100 years; why shouldn't it work for the Greens or, God help us, Reform?

Every time I read what a UK minister says about the EU it almost feels like they're assuming we have the same power as members. We're not negotiating, we're making representations. Only EU institutions are negotiating their rules.
I think when I was at school in the 1970/80s, I would not have had a clue if any teacher had referenced some Music Hall warbler who died in the 1920s. "Does anyone know who Marie Lloyd is?" π
Of course, in the 1970/80s, for all those decades' faults, people's musical tastes had not yet ossified. π¬
Dear @kajakallas.bsky.social and @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu, can the EC please take tough measures against this member state for seizing money from and blackmailing a European partner country under attack by Russia?
[and, all others, reposting would be great]
Excellent news, the Ig Nobels are awesome.
And given that 4 of 10 honorees declined to travel to the US last year, a sensible decision.
This video of the damages to the Chehel Sotoun palace in Isfahan is hard to watch. The finest example of Safavid architecture, the palace is a marvel of art & architecture that has survived more than 400 years. It is unbelievable that the βmost moral army in the worldβ has cared so little about it.
An ancient Irish rainforest, overwhelmed by invasive sika deer and rhododendron. As these trees die of old age, only the rhodo remains.
Most of Ireland's only 1% or so of surviving native woodland is dying, almost all due to invasives like sika, goats, sheep, and rhodo.
We could do SO much better.
Electrification of vehicles is a big step in the right direction. To complain it is not a silver bullet is to complain that Santa Claus doesn't exist, or that your ruby slippers don't work.
"A 37-year-old man was interviewed by police at the scene and was then given a direction to move on."
It seems staggeringly unlikely if a Muslim came in throwing fists, threatening to kill people and shouting anti-semitic slogans at kids during Hannukah they'd be allowed to leave peacefully.
Heating oil prices in the UK have trebled in a week. 2 million homes, no price cap protection, no warning.
Heat pumps + solar are multiple times more efficient, donβt require an oil tank and oil deliveries and are an insurance against such frightening price spikes.
So often I get "asked", for which see people trying to provoke a response, what rights trans and non-binary individuals are losing. Well, aside from the current and former chairs of the EHCR saying we don't have them, I am gonna say losing access to essential medical support is a pretty big one.
Human Rights Watch has accused Israeli forces of using white phosphorus incendiary shells in strikes on residential areas in a Lebanese village in violation of international law. https://to.pbs.org/46RZQDf
If hormones, or puberty blockers, were so dangerous, nobody would be allowed them.
That some people are and that trans kids can even, notionally at least, stay on them if already prescribed, tells you all you need to know.
CDU einen Tag nach der Wahlniederlage in a nutshell
People should be REALLY scared by this, it's normalising refusing healthcare to a section of the community for entirely ideological reasons with absolutely no medical reason

Excellent news from Ukraine's defense point of view. These are autochthonous and don't need US approval to be launched.
Well maybe just *unshock* yourself by thinking of all that will be accomplished by eliminating *all the other pollutants* that disappear when you electrify vehicle transport.
Because - brace for *further* shock - not electrifying reduces *nothing*.
