I’d bet it has probably sold the same amount on Steam as it has on Switch. Like many games which were neither blockbusters nor indie games, Bakeru didn’t seem to find a sizable audience, unfortunately.

I'm putting this here because I was genuinely shocked at how few reviews Bakeru has. It's an action platformer with presentation flair that rivals Nintendo, but my favorite part is that it's filled with an insane amount of Japanese cultural trivia.

Legend of the Mystical Ninja!
Goemon is a storied franchise I don't have much experience with, so let's change that.

Mystical Ninja seems to have gained a moderate cult following so I'll go with Goemon's Great Adventure, its less popular sequel which is a sidescrolling platformer.

Of course, you have to remember that for him anything older than the Switch qualifies as an “old game”.
“Older games are more fun.”
My son said this to me yesterday.
I’m starting to think I might be a bad influence on him.

9c. Perhaps they have been involved, but I hope that at the very least M2 went to Good-Feel to talk to them about the games.
9b. Most of the original people involved in the development of the games in the Ganbare Goemon games are still active in the industry, and, in fact, most of them can be found in one company: Good-Feel.
9. Unsaid and not even acknowledged in this interview: the original developers of the games. It's often the case that many developers are not involved in the ports because the game was just relatively minor or the developers are not in the game business anymore, this is not the case here...
8. The interview mentions a section in the compilation in which you can check the instruction manuals for every entry. This should be table stakes for any compilation, I think. It might be more interesting to have a section where you can see development materials, television commercials, etc.
7. While I understand the reason, it's still a shame not to see the GB entry Mononoke Dōchū Tobidase Nabe Bugyō in this collection. The optimist in me hopes that this hints to a second Goemon collection in the future.
6. Ueno mentions that they have prioritized playability (= making it a smooth retro experience) above accuracy, which gives me pause. For later Goemon games, sure, but with a. few exceptions, slowdown is not really a factor in any game in the collection.
5. The mention of Kurofune in this interview might make it seem as if it was a brutally difficult but well-liked entry, or a fondly-remembered kusoge. It's neither. I hope there are no jokes at its expense, however.
4. Of all the difficult stages in the Goemon series, I am of the opinion that the Ryūjin Stage in SFC Goemon 2 is not one the most difficult ones, but it is certainly challenging. Sarawareta and Kira Kira spring to mind. The rewind feature will also be very useful in Karakuri Dōchū.
3. Ueno's list of titles he wanted to play again (Gaiden 2, Yukihime (LOTMN), and McGuinness (SFC Goemon 2)) maybe hints at the titles Konami will promote the most. I have a different list; everyone has one.
