There's no duty for a submarine to rescue the survivors. You can't machine gun them, but you don't have to rescue them.

Except it's not a strict liability crime. He not only has to say it, he has to mean it. And Hegseth is just a dipshit who doesn't know that his words mean anything other than bullshit strongman blustering.

Try harder not to be a moron.

Killing a person is murder.

But only if that was what you intended.

Threatening "no quarter" is a war crime.

But only if you intended it as an actual threat (not bullshit blustering to a bunch of dipshit podcasters masquerading as a press corps).

That's the mens rea. Did he intend it as an order or an actual threat? No, obviously not.

It's a performance, not anything real. Like Marc Antony shouting "Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!" in Julius Caesar.

He blustered and bullshitted, but it was not an order or threat to kill surrendering or incapacitated opponents.

13.03.2026 22:53 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

That's not how mens rea works.

Not for that one specific charge. He has to know what "no quarter" means in order to commit any crime for invoking it.

13.03.2026 20:36 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Ignorance of its meaning goes to his state of mind, which would negate his criminal intent.

To be fair, Hegseth has no actual idea what "no quarter" actually means in the law of war. He just thinks it sounds tough and badass.

Told you so.

And it is far and away the most accurate courtroom movie ever made. They took some license with how expedited the trial was, but they took great care to get the procedures and the evidence right in between the laughs.

I genuinely think Gen X hit the sweet spot. We got immersed in the best of boomer music getting driven around as kids, then hit MTV, peak metal, and peak hip hop at pretty much exactly the same time. And while grunge crashed and burned, the best of those bands have definitely stood the test of time.

Stephen Miller actively wants Iranian terrorist attacks on Americans so he can justify ethnically cleansing our country.

Mark it.

I wish to announce my official position, which is that Hakeem Jeffries is an official loser who needs to be launched into the sun.

Bless your dumbass heart.

No, you deeply stupid person. That's only ONE side of the electoral job. That Kamala was a bad CANDIDATE on Gaza policy and stupid on Gaza politics just doesn't absolve the VOTERS of their votes for Shit Sandwich.

12.03.2026 21:17 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

No voter fought against genocide by voting for anyone other than Kamala or by withholding their votes from her. Voting is not fighting. It is a binary choice for peanut butter on saltine or shit sandwich. And we all have to live with how that choice turns out.

12.03.2026 21:10 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Enjoy your righteous shit sandwich.

Candidates *and* voters both have to do their jobs! And if they don't, we all have to eat shit sandwich for four more years.

12.03.2026 20:51 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Lots of voters just want whichever candidate seems most likely to smash the existing system.

12.03.2026 20:48 πŸ‘ 8 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Because the choice is between peanut butter on a saltine cracker or a shit sandwich.

12.03.2026 20:43 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

And it is the job of the voters to exercise the franchise wisely, neither voting for the obviously far worse candidate on the issue that's got them so angry, nor enabling that obviously far worse candidate by childishly withholding their votes from the better candidate in protest.

Was there ever any doubt? Remember, he went along with the GOP's congressional gerrymander because it made his own seat much safer for him while turning Nancy Mace's district into one that was no longer reachable for the Dems.

Citizens United doesn't control campaign contributions by individuals in state elections. And direct campaign contribution limits are still constitutional under both state and federal law. Oregon doesn't appear to have any contribution limits for now, but will have them capped starting next year.
