"No, no, genocide is not the answer, that's Fed Civics 101 guys"
I mean it's a thing I love about DS9 - it shows characters with utopian values applying that to situations where sometimes there's no easy answers
They were the original colonists on terraformed worlds betrayed by the terms of the Federation peace treaty (and you can see why they're pissed) but certainly by the end of the broader Maquis arc they've become driven by vengeance and ideology - but IMO DS9 does a great job showing the transition!
It helps that Kenneth Marshall, the guy who plays Eddington, absolutely chews up the screen any time he's on it
Watching an Eddington episode of DS9 and torn between "the Maquis were right" and "the Maquis are settler colonialists"
Now that Trump has tweeted about it, presumably he's set off a race between how fast and stealthily the Iranians can mine the Strait and how fast the US and Israel can bomb anything that floats on that side of the Gulf?
I feel like the mullahs have to have an equivalent of a too WWII-pilled Western dad type for whom this is Their Thing
god gives his sleepiest battles to his sleepiest soldiers
there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for
IIRC @joshtpm.bsky.social calls this getting dignity wraithed

A US submarine sinking a lonely, dinky Iranian surface ship an ocean away from the theater of the main conflictβand 9000
miles from North Americaβmakes it pretty clear the US is fighting a general war, without the declaration required by the Constitution. www.reuters.com/world/asia-p...

Offended that @localswampgay.bsky.social has not come up with some new unhinged skeet after hanging out for some hours
I was a little worried she'd be too much at first but she's really a great character and a fabulous actress
The state of the union address was like 72 hours before the US and Israel chose to attack Iranβs capital and call for regime change, and Trump did not even mention his policy toward Iran before Congress, much less ask for a declaration of war.
Todayβs military strikes on Iran β carried out by the United States and Israel β mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war.
Worse than useless.
It would be cool to have a legislature that acted to defend its own constitutional prerogatives and, maybe as a treat, the interests of the people it represents too.
For context, Politico reported Wednesday that the Trump regime thought it would be better optics if Israel bombed Iran first so that America could just appear to be helping an ally rather than starting a new war
