He lost a friend/romantic partner to the ‘thing’ he created and felt he had ownership of.

so my brain interpreted this scene as victor projecting his fear/disgust of birth as the very thing which killed his mother onto the creature, equating it to death begetting death, but also i (as well as the creature) genuinely don't think victor knows what an actual friend is

I also think that’s why he was so jarred by the creature’s relationship with Elizabeth. Victor had convinced himself that Elizabeth understood him, that he understood her, only to see how strong her relationship with his creation was.

Guillermo del Toro breathing new life into fiction’s most influential man-made-of-other-men, fleshing him out where past adaptations dumbed him down to a cavemanish freak that spoke in grunts & groans, loving & tending to his character in the way his on-page maker never could… it’s gold.

I love the fact that we got to see two of the best Frankenstein and Dracula movies ever made within a year of each other. Golden age of classic horror remakes/reimaginings. Robert Eggers and @realgdt.bsky.social are geniuses.

They finally gave Gil sideburns. Thank god.
