Alberta’s main challenge is not a new pipeline but oil demand risk and cleaning up idle oil & gas sites ($260 billion).

New takeaway pipeline capacity is available by upgrading existing pipelines.

Electricity is the energy of the future. That should be our focus.

The UCP are setting up preputial grievance. There is no unifying principal in the modern political parties masquerading as conservative beyond being aggrieved.

Evan Solomon is putting on theatrical concern on #PnPCBC. Talking about what he "demanded" from Sam Altman, but he is still not actually threatening proper regulation of digital asbestos, but is "demanding" that those companies do more self-enforcement.

Some think that because universities are slow to react to changes in the labour market, governments should intervene and make them go faster in specific directions...never pausing to consider that govts in fact know jack shit about labour market change.

I will die on this hill.

Poilievre: "Conservatives are the party of Sir John A. Macdonald.
The party that created Confederation.
The party of Canada."

Nope. The Conservative Party of Canada was created in 2003. Trying to claim to be the party of Confederation is stolen valour.

Yes, 5% for the province, but not as a PST. A 10% HST. No need for made in Alberta fluffery or worse yet a separate tax office.

oh no Canada is poorer than Alabama so Canada better do things to become more like Alabama instead of questioning whether or not the way they are measuring this is meaningful or useful

But the craziest thing Danielle Smith said was that "Alberta will double our pipeline capacity over the next ten years."

What? You're going to add five million barrels per day of *new* pipeline capacity?

Alberta has no "legitimate grievances." Not a one. None. Zippo. Nada.

What it has is issues that require managing by competent politicians, not failed political hacks like Anderson.

Alberta has shitty politicians. Full Stop.

β€œI told you so” is never a good move.

But as we slip further into an authoritarian Dark Age 2.0, I do wonder if all the past defenders (journalists, academics, clinicians) of wellness woo regret their role in helping to normalize the BS.

Oops?

Danielle Smith says 'significant' deficits to come, rules out tax hikes and big cuts | CBC News Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says "significant" deficits are in store for the province as her government tries to grapple with low oil prices.

Once again, for the hundredth time: Alberta could solve this with a simple PST. You'd be able to balance the budget *and* save non-renewable resource royalties for the future.

But, of course, the self-appointed "fiscal conservatives" won't entertain the idea. #abpoli

I know I’m fixating, but β€œshooting down party balloons and using it as a pretext for war” is literally the β€œ99 Luftballons” story arc. 🎈🀯 (Even β€œMiami 2017” didn’t map this closely.)

It's astonishing how much of the NEP victimhood culture is actually just spurious correlation that's been weaponized/misremembered.

The vast majority of the economic damage was due to high inflation, high interest rates, and collapsing oil prices. None of those had anything to do with Trudeau 1.0.

One lesson from the Epstein–Mandelson affair is that we need to stop routinely rehabilitating political careers after serious scandals.

When politicians knowingly engage in grave ethical wrongdoing, that should permanently end their political careers. Being "talented" should not override that.

Underneath the name Charlie Hebdo is a pile of bloodied dead bodies representing US citizens killed by ICE. The pile of bodies are collected in one corner to represent the stars of the US flag and the streaks of blood caused by them being dragged across the ground form the red and white stripes. In the foreground an armed skinhead officer with an ICE vest is dragging his latest victim with multiple gunshots to join the pile. The world is watching in horror.
