Inside the church looking at the stone font which has four stone lions around the base and various figures around the bowl including an angel (?) and a lion.

A transparent rule marked off in centimetres and further divided into 10ths of a millimetre. Two tiny circular objects are sitting on top, measuring about 1 mm. They are the corpses of two pseudoscorpions which were found inside the church on a dusty ledge.

Only a short cycle ride in the misty gloom today. Stopped at St Mary's, Shotesham. Scanning horizontal surfaces inside, I spotted two tiny dots - Cheiridium museorum, sadly dead. These so-called Book Scorpions are hard to find, several of my records are dead specimens found in churches in cobwebs.

After searching for this spider at other sites and failing to find it, i was glad to pick this male up at the weekend, old records from the site nearly 20 years old. Zelotes electus.

Spending a bit of time checking the external brickwork whilst at a party....as one does! First time I've seen Sardinidion blackwalli in a few years, still only know it from two gardens in St Austell down here. Must be elsewhere in Cornwall! @britishspiders.bsky.social

Don’t like to disagree with @ajcann.bsky.social but first thought was Hypomma bituberculatum. Asked @tylanberry.bsky.social for thoughts -> I don't think Gonatium, they don't have the dark cephalic region. I think Hypomma bituberculatum/fulvum or maybe Gongylidium rufipes

#Saturdayspider time. I finally found a 'Garden centre spider' Uloborus plumipes. An old world species which seems to have made itself quite comfortable in the house plant section of my local garden centre.

Definitely a Clubiona sp., probably comta, although as it’s a juvenile, hesitant to be definite

Hurrah, my spitting spiders are back. This one is really tiny and needs to eat. One day, I'll get to see one catching something.

What I witnessed here, I think, was an attempt of a Lycosidae (most likely Pardosa sp.) to balloon? Anyone willing to confirm?

*Ballooning refers to a type of locomotion where a spider takes flight.

Very possibly. Wolf spiders don’t make webs (at least in UK) so the silk strands are only for moving from one place to another or for ballooning. However, wonder if that individual is too large to “balloon” 🤔
It then looks like it’s recycling the silk strands at the end of video.

Ero aphana (sternum checked) - female on the underside of the lid of our green bin when I put it out just now. Always a good place to check. Only my 2nd in & around the garden.

There should be matures by May. It's not the easiest genus for reliable visual ID, but there's always help at hand!

Sticking with spiders for this one. Here's a female Walnut Orbweaver (Nuctenea umbratica) I found a couple of nights back. They have a slightly flattened abdomen allowing them to hide in cracks and crevices during the day.

Due to various circumstances I have not had any trips out looking for spiders so far this year! Fortunately I have been looking after some spiders that have kept my interest. Not had anything to personally post so decided to share some pictures of local spiders from previous years.

A spider I don't see nearly as often as I should - the delightful Green Meshweaver (Nigma walckenaeri). This one was found trapezing after dark, and even when she sat down I needed some comically acrobatic manouevres to get the shot (hence the suboptimal sharpness).
