So many questions.
The frogs' night-time pool party continues in the rain. You can see their eyes looking like pairs of headlights.
Frog in garden pond peeking out from between pond plants
I think I missed the main frog event this year. But there are still up to 20 active in the pond overnight. This one didnβt mind posing for a photo in the sun today.
kill the imposter syndrome in you head because not only is there someone out there doing it worse than you, they're also using chat gpt to do it
Anyways.
Chilly and grey here and Iβve barely seen any frogs!
We haven't had any sun all day, so it may as well be

I think it could be a good thing (if the right people are paying attention!)

Macro photo of a brown stink bug in face view on a leaf, guarding a tightly-clustered bunch of eggs that are shaped and colored exactly like a full tray of dark beer with foam on top.
Finally, the bug is back with a round of the Guinness.
Big clumps of frogspawn and lots of male frogs clambering over each other in garden pond with green plants
About 20 frogs in the garden pond this morning, and the first spawn of the year (last year, the first was around 4 March). Sad that I canβt be at home today to watch them. But hereβs a photo from last year.

It is making me think I should draw some more digital birds!
Thanks for sharing @lowcarbonkev.bsky.social (I'd almost forgotten about that dunnock!) and I was really hoping you'd bought one of @haggytea.bsky.social's cormorants β a match made in heaven!

A cut lino block inked up with black ink. The lino block has been carved to leave the profile image of a Barn Owl in relief. The post shows the progress I have made in making this artwork so far.
Made a little step forward on the linocut of a Barn Owl I'm working on. First block carved βοΈ. I made the drawing for this print from a real life Barn Owl at a wildlife drawing session in Margate last year.
Looking forward to seeing more of this!
Thank you! Printmaking can be a lot of work and I often wonder why Iβm doing something so time-consuming!

Iβm trying to make a new #linocut print every month in 2026. (OK, itβs true that Iβm on the first one and itβs already mid-February, but nevermind.) Hereβs my progress this weekend. Iβm using one piece of lino to print all the colours, one after the other. This is called the βreductionβ method.

Managed to fit in the final Winter Bird Survey visit to one of our squares this morning (since it wasnβt raining). More skylarks this time but still not a lot going on, to be honest. The path along the riverbank was very muddy - not my favouriteβ¦

π You canβt see them here, but the first frogs of the year have entered the pond! Based on previous years, we probably wonβt see any spawn until the first week of March. πΈ

π There it is! My curlew #linocut print is on the wall at the @camcreatives.bsky.social Art Show at the Grand Arcade in #Cambridge from 9-18 February. Loads of amazing, diverse art on show from local artists, so why not pop in to have a look? The exhibition is upstairs, near the library and cinema.
I suppose, if you canβt easily keep water from your βoldβ pond, at least now is a good time to be collecting rainwater for it!
