With the second survey wave spanning four days before and two days after the highly contentious Oval Office meeting, we were able to utilise an 'Unexpected Event during Survey Design' (UESD) - a unique opportunity to analyse real-time shifts in German public opinion.
We examine how the contentious Oval Office meeting between Donald Trump, J.D. Vance, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy shaped German public opinion on the United States and on foreign and defense policy preferences and how these short-term effects relate to longer-term trends.
I’m excited to share 'The Trump Treatment: A Natural Experiment in German Public Perception of the US', a great collaboration with @mariusfroehle.bsky.social, @judithreinbold.bsky.social, and Sebastian Jäckle, has just been published in @prxjournal.bsky.social.
