I've really been in my anti-Black American exceptionalism bag. Not in the sense that we aren't exceptional, but that our exceptional-ness is not something inherent to us, it's a result of our circumstances.

Older black people are super loyal to the Dems, we know this. I told her “well, obvi don’t vote Republican but I won’t fault anyone for registering as an independent. The reason the Dems can be useless is bc they know they already have your vote.” She got quiet. A breakthrough.
My grandma is a black liberal boomer and our political conversations are so interesting. Rn she’s pissed at Dems and ranting about them so much that her friend says to her her “so what, you gonna change register as a republican or an independent now” and she scoffed at the mere thought of doing that

It took me literally all morning at the sewing machine bc Im a novice, but I completely repaired Michaels ripped pajama pants. Resewed the pocket, patched a big hole, sewed up a big ripped seam along the side and sewed new hems.
I have a bad case of covid *and* Im on my period.
The Reconstruction era is such a tough time period to read about for me. It would already be bad enough if this country promised my ancestors rights and compensation for their labor and just never delivered on any of it. But we were given things and they took the shit back. They took it BACK 😔
