No paper is perfect What happens when AI peer review cuts us no slack?

𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐫, 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭.
It is not enculturated into a discipline (which requires more than just reading literature), has no tacit knowledge, & cannot form a consensus with disciplinary experts.
AI cannot peer review work unless that work was written by AI.

Teaching is an honour and a privilege. I’m incredibly lucky to be entering my 5th year of teaching at the University of Melbourne and 2026 sees me teaching across 3 faculties in undergrad and postgrad subjects.

The big questions now: what tape are you using? Black? Black/Red? Do you have correction tape? Is it properly weighted or does it top slightly when you carriage return too enthusiastically?

I don't use the AI tools on publisher sites, so it's not surprising that this message is disquieting, but surely as academics we SHOULD be reviewing the material directly so we don't miss any important information regardless of an AI summary.
