Can I just say…I am obsessed with the manuscript I’ve been editing for a client and will be wrapping up tomorrow. I missed getting to do this. And I’m happy I get to do it again. 📑👩💻💛
My dad is turning 70 in a few months. He doesn’t want to celebrate because his older brother didn’t make it that far. And I get it. I miss my uncle so much.
Anyway, I don’t really know what I mean to say here; I just hope this doesn’t become a regular meal choice again.
This was a big deal for me because I ate it so often before Feb 2024. To not have touched it for almost two years was a milestone for me. Heart disease is prevalent on my dad’s side. I did this to try and slow down whatever heredity will throw at me in the future.
A small thing, but important to me: My uncle passed away in Feb 2024 from a heart attack. He was 69. My dad has also had two heart attacks in his life. I stopped eating McDonald’s that month, all the way until…tonight. Because I’m hurting with the world and just needed comfort food.

So, what’s next for me? I will be returning to full-time freelance editing (and will continue searching for new rep after parting ways with my agent). I’m beyond excited to go back to working directly with authors, and I’ll be offering the same services I offered previously (plus some new ones!).
But sometimes, even when you love something, it’s not the best thing for you long-term. I won’t go into the details, but please know that my coworkers are the most amazing, hardworking, compassionate people I’ve ever known. And our books are, and will continue to be, incredible.

I just walked away from my dream job.
It really was my dream job, and I mean it. It checked every possible box I could have imagined: working in children’s book publishing, copyediting and proofreading amazing books, managing titles and schedules, and a very short commute to the Atlanta office.
Anyway, this was a really special moment I just wanted to share. I’m going to remember it, always.
Tonight, we wiped it clean, reassembled it, and played a match for the first time in years. My mom and my husband watched us play. I won 21-17, but he definitely put up a fight, being 69 and all! 😂
It was in his house growing up, and had been in our basement with boxes and clutter covering it for a decade. But years before then, when I broke my arm in middle school and had to wear a sling, he taught me how to play ping pong on that table (with one arm).
I had a special moment tonight.
My parents have been through a lot recently. They finally made time to renovate the kitchen and basement in their house of 40+ years. We’re in town for Thanksgiving and helping put things back.
One of those things is my dad’s 50-year-old ping-pong table.
I want to add that I know everyone is stressed, and those who are looking for work can easily lose track of who they've contacted. But my lizard brain wants to think I just wasn't helpful and they never want to talk to me again. 😅

But it kinda hurts when someone emails me questions and I spend over an hour answering, and then never hear from them again.
