I haven't thought about filling a gas tank since last summer. Same for oil changes, tuneups, car insurance, and parking. And I haven't paid a dime for those or any of the dozens of little extras that car ownership costs mosts Americans every month.

If your street setback is 10' in your zoning district per the codes, but all your neighbors' houses are 25' back from the from the street property line, then you just paid for a large chunk of expensive urban land that you can't build on.

I have long despised Durham's block face requirements in the UDO which essentially lock entire neighborhoods into the same setback standards as when they were developed 80+ years ago. It's nice to see some carve-outs in the new LDC, but why even go through all this? Just make it a set number.
