Born one of Scotland’s many creative engineers. R Feynman is a hero and an inspiration. Not always obvious.

Will that be one single ‘British’ culture, then, or will it be permissible to have different ‘mini-cultures’ for Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland? Does she understand nothing about this Kingdom, and why it’s called United?

My favorite quote, simply explaining the main reason why the ships aren’t sailing: “It’s more about the safety of the crews rather than taking on insurance for damages.”

Because it never occurred to Donald that someone might care about the humans aboard the vessels.

A black-and-white montage portrait of pioneering American virologist Charlotte Friend (1921–1987), who discovered the Friend leukemia virus and advanced understanding of retroviruses and cancer. The main image shows her in her laboratory, seated at a compound microscope in a research setting lined with shelves of scientific books and journals. She is a middle-aged woman with short, neatly styled dark hair, wearing round-framed eyeglasses, a pearl necklace, and a white lab coat over a patterned blouse with a floral collar. She smiles warmly and confidently at the camera, one hand resting near the microscope's stage, conveying dedication, intelligence, and approachability. In the lower right corner is a smaller inset close-up portrait of a younger Charlotte Friend, smiling brightly with softer features, short wavy hair, and a simple white blouse, highlighting her earlier career. The composition blends her professional lab environment with a personal archival photo, celebrating her groundbreaking contributions to virology, leukemia research, and women's roles in science during the mid-20th century. The overall mood is one of scholarly achievement, warmth, and historical significance.

Virologist Charlotte Friend (b. #OTD in 1921) proved viruses could cause cancer (1957) & revolutionized virology (& helped define modern retrovirology).

She later pioneered differentiation therapy, showing cancer cells could be "reverted" to health, defining a new path to treat cancer. #WomenInSTEM

Julia Cumming's magnificent debut solo single from her upcoming album 'Julia' on Partisan Records. It's mostly just one shot (take 14 since you asked). Had so much fun with this one. Please enjoy 'My Life' x youtu.be/orGNQBZ1sYo?...

This is *nothing* dignified about wearing a cheap baseball cap that promotes yourself to the otherwise solemn ceremony to receive the bodies of the troops you had killed to distract from your bad economy and rampant pedophilia.

Take back control, they said.

Free us from the tyranny of the EU, they said.

And now they are calling for us to be shackled to the Trump regime; else we’ll be a piffling irrelevance.

Iran’s people were facing a horrible shortage of water before the war began. If we are destroying desalination plants and setting fire to Teheran we are committing unfathomable crimes.

The reason we have “stupid rules of engagement” is to make sure we don’t bomb elementary schools.

So it now appears based on many media reports that we bombed a girls elementary school and killed 175 people, and right after that Hegseth was beating his chest in a press conference saying we weren’t going to worry about “stupid rules of engagement” anymore.

Young Woman Being Harassed by a Man

Young Woman Being Harassed by a Man

This is Judith Leyster's amazing 1631 painting ‘Young Woman Being Harassed by a Man’.

She was well known in her day but SURPRISE! her works were later misattributed either to Frans Hals, her local contemporary, or her husband, Jan Miense Molenaer.

Quietly, calmly and forensically, BBC just dismantled the Trump communications shitshow on Iran.

No hyperbole, just laying out an unprecedented military, diplomatic and reputational shambles.

Worth a watch.
