The fact that they think this is a good idea shows they haven't read it all the way through.

DON'T PANIC. And always carry a towel.

Today, we're celebrating the life of the humanist and author Douglas Adams, born #onthisday 1952.

He is sorely missed, but his books remain some of the funniest and most imaginative explorations of the absurdity of life, the universe, and everything.

The point is that you can't assume you provide for everyone. Providing for everyone is the first, most important task. Everything else is tinkering with toys.

We could provide for everyone many times over today. We could have two hundred years ago. Ten thousand years ago (and in many places, we did). Technological advancements are useful, but they are completely unrelated to providing for everyone.

How the Religious Right Won the Trump Era Media failed to reckon with the evangelical support for Trump and we’re all paying the price.

"Christianity, to be sure, comes in both liberationist and authoritarian interpretations, but it is anti-pluralist by default."

We will not achieve dunctional democracy unless we face this fact.

If you are frustrated by the lack of non-religious leaders in the world, the best thing you can do to change that is to be open about your atheism. The second best thing is join a secular group, in person.

The greatest friend to theocracy is a lack of shared identity among the non-religious.

And an explicitly non religious politician is unelectable to federal office pretty much anywhere in the US.

Interesting. It doesn't help that the plain language of the New Testament itself shows Jesus not being very tolerant of non-believers either.

We still have people in charge who value god more than people, so yeah it's not going to change.

#Atheism 's only war is against human suffering. Whatever is happening right now, it is the religious, not the non-religious, that are responsible and only them who can end it.

Anyone who believes in an afterlife is at risk of becoming this.

Any denomination that has the idea of heaven and hell is always at great risk of devolving into this.

This is an interesting point. Depends on what spirituality means. If it involvesbelieving in things for which there is no evidence, the distinction between that and believing in God is difficult to define.

And then there are appx. two billion people who are non-religious.

Tweets by Brian Goldstone dated 25 July 2025 read:

β€œA reminder: framing homelessness as a problem of mental illness or addiction has been politically manufactured to divert attention from its *actual* causes-skyrocketing rents, poverty wages, gutted social supports-and to justify the removal of homeless people from public space.”

β€œWhat CAUSES homelessness is the lack of safe, dignified affordable housing-full stop.
To be clear: mental illness or substance use no more cause homelessness than a fever causes the flu.”

Seeing it debated whether the military is actively rooting for Armageddon or simply led by Christian nationalists who think they are fighting on God's side. Doesn't seem to be a meaningful distinction for the atheists along for the ride.

I wrote 2 books that lay out all that this implies: American Idolatry and Taking America Back for God

In short, this country was founded for and remains the sole province of these men (straight, white, able-bodied, Protestant, natural born citizen) and their women and children.
