i for one cannot wait for streetcars to return to the 503. The bus is faster yes, but it is crushloaded day and night despite running every 6 mins. People who say we should replace all streetcars with buses clearly have never had to rely on a bustituted route.

Look man, I regularly post about the shortcomings of our transit and regulatory system. Sometimes we need to take a chill pill and be grateful for what we got. We don't need to be pixel peeping every little screenshot to find flaws, especially ones that are irrelevant to the discussion chain.

He was talking about the streetcar destination signs, not the street signs. Either way, I appreciate your work man but I was just trying to take a pleasant photo celebrating the nice weather and didn't really need the uncalled for pessimism.

the forced transfer in the port lands after they TTC split the 72B into the 72C and the 114 really highlights the importance of safe and comfortable transfer locations, especially after dark

It's a decently sized company, but very NA focused. The prices are definitely jacked up because they're supposed to be Buy America compliant. They supply switch motors to a large portion of the light rail/streetcar operators in NA, like Philly, SF, etc.

Electric Single Point Switch Operators DC Power, Non-Locking - Irwin Car This is placeholder text just to show that text goes here.

The only example photos for this product is from Toronto and Buffalo lol. Although I suspect Buffalo has eliminated this single point switch with the recent DL&W extension.

There are still too many flags like this on the network which delay service. SOGR of existing infrastructure is poor and should be prioritised at the same time as we roll out dual-point switches. It shouldn't be an either or.

I really hope that this text isn't implying that dual point switches is an alternative to funding SOGR. Because that is absolutely egregious and unacceptable. The cost to install dual point switches when replacing special work is negligible when compared to the labour/other material cost.

The 507 had some stops taken out over the years but it still has a few too many. The delay is mostly in the Humber Bay shores area which can get quite congested at peak.

Jokes aside, it's sad how the Long Branch car provides objectively superior service to Line 6 with very minimal infrastructure. There are no fancy stations/level boarding, not even off-board payment or TSP, yet service is faster, more frequent, and more reliable than Line 6 at all hours.

Travelling on this very unsafely operated rail vehicle on a very wide road at breakneck speeds (no CBTC, no speed governors, no private ROW) using century+ old infrastructure. Obviously a catastrophe just waiting to happen. Pedestrians get mowed down every few hours.

Only in Toronto will a street that looks like this have buses running every 3-4 mins.

02.03.2026 18:44 ๐Ÿ‘ 27 ๐Ÿ” 4 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yea, single blade switches, while dated, are not the main issue with the infra. There's no indication without stop and inspect, no locking, and many faulty switch motors on the network. There have been multiple instances of streetcars colliding due to a misset switch and ops not observing correctly.

Tbf TRACCS is a very NA/Canada oriented conference, many agencies attending likely wouldn't have streetcar network knowledge so it's nice to see agencies sharing knowledge on their track replacement/installation procedures. They do special work quite efficiently despite the older infra used.

Yeah I observed the transit signal going off before left turning vehicles even when the train was still very far away. It appears to just be a static phase order change for now.

01.03.2026 23:28 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

No. The timings appear to be the same. They just changed the order of the phases. The timings are still static.

Phase reordering yes. cbtc updates no.

01.03.2026 23:17 ๐Ÿ‘ 3 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Every intersection on Line 6 appears to have received the updated timings as of today.

01.03.2026 23:07 ๐Ÿ‘ 5 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Olivia Chow announced that phase reordering has been installed on Line 6. How does the line perform with the retimed signals? I rode it again eastbound off-peak and completed the trip in 39 mins, 2 mins quicker than before the new signal timing. Not a huge improvement, but still something.
