I know calling reps is very nerve racking. You're not sure what's the right thing to say, and tbh having a script thrown at me makes things just as nerve racking.

Hey, in September (2026) Google is going to require ALL Android apps to have "verified" developers, even ones not on the Play Store. This means creatives* who don't comply with giving Google payment and their GOVERNMENT ID will have to cut service to their apps indefinitely.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to expand this control in future years. I also wouldn't be surprised if developers try to make a built in work-around for their apps that makes this irrelevant. We'll just have to see . . .

For now, it seems they'll be locking admin privileges for downloading apps with an unknown source on Android devices with Play Protect (if you have pre-installed Google apps right out of the box, you have Play Protect). It's a user-end block, not developer-end.
