Reform mayor of Lincolnshire has voted to slash ESOL.
A clear signal of the damage Reform intends to inflict on our communities.
Demanding migrants speak English then cutting the very provision that makes that possible.

I will never get used to the disdain our country holds for brown and Black children.
From Palestine to Iran to Sudan, we normalize the destruction of schools and hospitals and daycares. We reduce children to death tolls and their futures to rubble with no consequence or second thought.

Have you posted that ballot yet? Many will have them hidden on their desk under piles of marking, or somewhere in the bottom of their bag...
Please vote - the leadership of UCU really matters! π
If you believe branches by themselves can't solve this crisis - we need national unity. Vote left!
Please sign and circulate. NUS gets ministers to debate the student loan fiasco.
Student loans were mis-sold: they were presented as a loan that students would be able to pay off, not a 9% tax.

An aerial satellite view of a city serves as the background for an announcement graphic. In the center, a cream-colored rectangular box with rounded corners displays text in two different styles. At the top, the words "START POINT ANNOUNCED" are written in bold, black, sans-serif capital letters. Below this, hand-written style text in orange-red reads: Park Lane, Central London 28th March @ 12pm At the bottom of the cream box is a black and white logo that reads "TOGETHER" in a stylized, bold font, with the words "AGAINST THE FAR RIGHT" in smaller block letters underneath. The background map shows a dense urban area with historical buildings and a large green park featuring a body of water on the left side.

: Half of UK universities face a deficit next year. Up to 50 could close.
That is a sector in crisis. Simply blaming a tuition fee freeze and nudging fees up with inflation is not a plan. Where is the long-term strategy for higher education?
#Universities #HigherEducation
In an unprecedented move, one reflective of the deeply unprecedented times at our university, UoN branches of three different unions (@UCU.org.uk, @unisonorg.uk, and Unite) have all successfully passed motions of no confidence in the Vice Chancellor and the entire executive board.

Reform UK 'tax calculator' shows plans will most benefit super-rich
An excellent article summarising the strength of feeling on campus against the VS scheme and its timing, at the University of Dundee.

Youth unemployment is at an 11 year high - 16.1% of 16 - 24 year olds are out of work, education or training.
Here is a piece by myself and Sean Vernell, standing for UCU NEC (London & East FE) arguing why the TUs need to build a campaign to change this.
www.reginepilling.com/updates/yout...
Let's be clear. If Streeting cared remotely about the wellbeing of trans youth he would have called an immediate public inquiry into the 500% increase of deaths in trans kids after he and others stopped gender affirming care.
But instead, he commissioned a bogus report to try and cover it up.
Packed workshop - "Building unity: how can unions be better?"
Since 2008 real term pay has dropped, yet productivity has increases. The rich are getting, richer and we're getting poorer.
Reform UK can grow in these conditions. TUs need to take on these arguments
@togetheralliance.bsky.social
Agnes Peters, UNISON member leading campaign for Migrant Fair Visas was incredibly powerful.
Trade unions need to work together to protect migrant rights - division and oppression only benefits the bosses. We must stand together - fair visas for all!
@unison.org.uk @togetheralliance.bsky.social
Sharon Graham, UNITE GS - on absolute π₯
Clearly laying out how Reform UK have been able to grow - workers have been made to pay time and time again. Labour have failed to turn this around.
A wealth tax needs to be introduced now.
@togetheralliance.bsky.social @unitetheunion.bsky.social
Workers against the far right organising conference is about to start. Incredibly important event to build the fight back against the rise of Reform UK - they are preying on those disillusioned and left behind.
Trade unions need to fight for all, to counter the far right

Zionism was a minority movement among Eastern European Jews until the Nazi Holocaust. The dominant view of my grandparents' generation (see, eg. the Bund) was to stand and resist oppression, even race riots (pogroms).
Now there can be no doubt. Israel is a pure colonialist project of the USA.
We need lots of trade unionists to attend this Saturday's training and organising event - to help build that campaign.
Great to see Chantelle Lunt, UCU member at LJMU will be speaking!
Absolutely horrendous - this is the threat of Reform UK (amongst others). They will do untold damage to our communities - we need a bigger and more unite campaign to stop them NOW

Here is the intro to my VP hustings speech - solidarity to all on strike and in dispute! We need a leadership who will support all branches and ensure members have the backing of the national union. The crisis facing post-16 education is a national issue, needing a national strategy.
400+ redundancies, Southend campus closed, the foundation year department closed, other departments decimated...
...not a popular plan, it seems! Our tireless picketers have been chatting to hundreds of staff and students a day, and we've secured loads of new UCU and Unison members and supporters β
*AT A UNIVERSITY SPIN-OFF*???
How is that legal? He makes decisions that impact the resources (financial or otherwise) that that spin-off benefits from.
UCU London Met
Jeremy Corbyn stands with the UCU branch
120 jobs are being lost
1. A firm commitment to no compulsory redundancies.
2.Management to halt the current redundancies
3. Implementation of an enhanced voluntary severance scheme.
4. An open meeting with the Vice-Chancellor
