Kneecapping electric cars right before disrupting global oil markets ππ€π‘π€―
Sue the traffic engineer and the municipality into outer space
By the way, these people CONSTANTLY tell on themselves online.
There's a lot of people out there on the roads that have no business being there and are a threat to public safety.
Everyone knows it and no one's willing to do anything about it. π‘
In practice in the US, we have a "right to speed" that is more protected than the "right to arrive at your destination safely."
Reckless jerks are protected and innocent people get hurt.
Excellent hate read about Teslaβs fraudulently named βfull self drivingβ
βThe Tesla hit Story, a 71-year-old grandmother, at highway speed. She was pronounced dead at the scene.β

βWeβve been brainwashed to believeβand this is reinforced through our decisions about the design of our streets, speed limits, every sort of built environment decision, as well as the lawβthat car convenience is more important than human life.β

Former Streetsblog USA editor Angie Schmitt was in town for a CNU Midwest board meeting. She's been working on books about pedestrian safety and building cities for kids.

We did a short facilities tour on Divvy, checking out PBLs, Loop Link and the riverwalk.
I love these. The βbye bye buggy.β My daycare had one when my kids were there. For walks
Liberty and Waldo intersection with paint and bollards to narrow the intersection
Grateful for all of the ways El Cerrito city staff are making our streets safer, like this improvement on Liberty at Waldo.
Drivers fly down Liberty, a residential street, avoiding higher traffic streets. These bollards should help slow them down and protect people biking and walking.
Boring take but boys would do better in school if they were walking and biking to school instead of getting almost no exercise all day.
I feel like there's a relationship between everyone being depressed, lonely and out of shape and this:

The end result is a criminalization of walking. Something that should be the most normal thing in the world -- walking somewhere -- becomes this dangerous, punishable offense.
Jaywalking is sort of a scam imo.
We arrest pedestrians sometimes for not using a crosswalk. And blame them if they get killed outside a crosswalk.
Meanwhile, we secretly instruct engineers (thru MUTCD) NOT to build crosswalks with traffic signals.

Really great reporting on "jaywalking" laws, and reasons more and more places are reconsidering them.

So rare to get a functional walkable retail corridor like this in Ohio. This one, Lorain avenue in cleveland, is emerging as a legit one tho imo.

We can #StopSuperSpeeders BEFORE they kill people. Similar to how drunk drivers are sometimes required to use ignition interlock devices.

I love how Waymo used its huge megaphone to blame the child (darting into traffic!) but we didnβt hear the familyβs side.
One reason I think these huge companies should be held to a higher standard than normal drivers is they are incredibly powerful and wealthy.
I love @schmangee.bsky.social 's honesty & perspective here. the way she describes how people wanting to trust the system get let down and eventually give up.

Los Angeles is becoming a cautionary tale about what happens when cities just completely abdicate their responsibility for keeping people safe on the roads imo. Site where a pregnant mother was killed on a family bike ride
