Joint Venture Group Improvisation Last year I was honoured to be invited to take part in Joint Venture 2.0 as part of Artspring festival. Taking part in a fully improvised performance with artists I'd never played with before - well it was a bit nerve wracking. But I was surprised just how natural and smooth the entire thing went. Naturally I wasn't able to take photos, but luckily my wife Adrianna got a few shots from the audience.

That said I opened this piece in alarm due to the headline - but by the time I'd finished reading it I really felt that the headline was a bit misleading and could have been phrased better.

I'm a subscriber, but have been finding myself having less headspace for the stuff that 404 reports on - but this is just me - I still think they're doing an important job and it's great that they're highlighting so many important topics.

In Poland the river's ice is stacked along the banks, ignoring the warm weather that makes it seem so unlikely.

As a @404media.co subscriber I read the headline with some shock, but then after reading the article I felt that the headline was a bit misleading, or at least that it could have been phrased a bit better.

First 2026 Flower Last Friday and Saturday were beautifully warm in Berlin, with temperatures hitting 18-20c! Nature was quick to react, with this crocus popping out from the leaf litter and immediately attracting pollinators. It looks like winter might be finally winding down in Berlin. The reminders were there though - the lake we walked around last Saturday was still mostly frozen with birds and ducks wandering around on the slowly melting surface. Buy Print

Two Tone Ice I am still somewhat perplexed by this. Last weekend when we had a sudden warm spell and beautiful sun, we took a walk around the neighbourhood and visited Fennpfuhlpark in Lichtenberg. Despite it being the second day of 18-20c heat, the lake was still mostly frozen over. But one section of it caught my eye - it seemed as though one side had been spray painted white.

Crane Migration 5 months ago I was working in my studio and heard distant bird calls. I popped my head outside to see an enormous flock of cranes circling overhead. It was that time of year again - Berlin is on a major migratory route for a lot of bird species and every October we see them flying south, and then hopefully sometime in the next month or so we'll see them flying back north again.

The Sandsacks Walking past a medieval market on our last night in Dresden, we couldn't help but hear what sounded like very well played traditional Irish music emanating from inside the market. We wandered in and discovered "The Sandsacks" performing a solid set of trad songs, including some as Gaeilge (in Irish). Strong voices, well played, and then, in between songs they would banter, entirely…

Hot Beer At one of the many, many Weihnachtsmarkt in Dresden in December, this stall had a particular lure with its rising steam, dapper brewmeister, and a bit of pageantry. This shot would have been perfect, if only I had a slightly wider depth of field on it - I only noticed after I got the shot that the glasses and pouring weren't in focus - but it was my first proper outing with the new camera and I was still getting accustomed to how to use it. Still, I liked the vibe of the shot so much that I decided to keep it.

Macro Pathway One of the many many ultramacro photos taken of Adrianna Snochowska's art experiments for the cover of Nine Times by Ebauche - which was released very recently. This particular image didn't make the cut for the album, but I still loved the shapes and textures. It may not be immediately obvious as this is zoomed in extremely close, but those wispy textured lines that appear to be floating - they're actually the individual fibres from a piece of heavy grade artist's paper where the paper has been torn.
