the mantis shrimp has 16 types of color receptors.

humans have 3.

we see roughly 10 million colors and think that's impressive.

the mantis shrimp is sitting there processing a visual reality so hyperchromatic that scientists genuinely aren't sure what it's like to be one.

Golden rutile with dark green and colorless clinochlore on quartz.. The location given is how Mindat lists it. This is not from the main quartz collecting area but from a small roadcut some distance up the road from the quartz area. These must be etched out of calcite filling the cavities in the rock. Collected by me 8 July 1989.

Common Green Magpie.

The common green magpie (Cissa chinensis)

A neon-colored, noisy, highly social bird of lowland and mid-altitude subtropical forests. Surprisingly difficult to spot as it glides from tree to tree in the middle and upper levels of the forest.

β€œAlbucius said: β€˜Humankind is the bees. They spit up their lives in the form of stories, so they won’t remain stunned into silence… With each nightly return, they restore, amass, share, and consume the nectar they’ve gathered and the tales of their quest. (1/3)

See the true Spring begin.”

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #photogenic, birds you find to be photogenic.

I don’t know about you, but I think this little Rufous-tailed Jacamar was certainly making a strong case for inclusion.
